sail7seas Posted August 5, 2018 #26 Share Posted August 5, 2018 The travel luggage scales are sold at Bed, bath and Beyond for $10 and under, Many to choose from including samsonite. Mine is quite accurate old on line and in their brick and mortar.
Typhoon1 Posted August 5, 2018 #27 Share Posted August 5, 2018 Very inaccurate. I stood on one in February. It showed me gaining 11 lbs. Upon returning, I ended up at the hospital for gall bladder surgery. Those extra pounds had disappeared.
baggal Posted August 5, 2018 #28 Share Posted August 5, 2018 Goodness what are you all carrying in your luggage? I have this enormous rolling duffel bag, and even when I've had it packed to capacity it didn't exceed the airline weight limits. Shoes, and more shoes. Sea girl 23 Posted August 6, 2018 #30 Share Posted August 6, 2018 I've seen them in the Atrium area on some ships, but didn't think they were on all decks at that time. Mine are usually too heavy for me to drag to the scale anyway (but always under the airline limit). Same.I'm always under the airline limit and am the envy of my family. (Yes,even for 2 week cruises and especially my European cruise where I was in Rome for a few days beforehand)
Globehoppers Posted August 6, 2018 #31 Share Posted August 6, 2018 There are buttons on the scales to choose your airline and whether you are flying domestic or international. If you are under limit, it prints out a coupon telling you how much duty free liquor or close out t-shirts you can buy in the onboard shops. My spouse is into Swiss chocolate in Duty Free. Stuff on the ships is usually stale.
Haboob Posted August 6, 2018 #32 Share Posted August 6, 2018 Captain Albert's blog today said that HAL is putting scales at each staircase on every deck on the last day of a cruise to check your luggage weight. Is this new or have I not noticed them? I honestly have never looked and by the last day am sadly pretty much using elevators exclusively as muscles hurt from walking miles each day. If so, what a great idea. A few times we have been doing the suitcase shuffle at the airport to keep them all under 50 pounds. He did say that some use them for intended use and usually groan :D Port of Seattle's "Port Valet" program waives overweight fees on baggage all the way to your last domestic airport -- Customs gets a veto on your use because it also waives having to present your luggage for customs inspection. They don't charge for the program, but do collect overweight-waived baggage fees for the airlines. PS: it also gives your airline boarding passes in your stateroom the night before debarkation
