MrmrsSteelman Posted August 14, 2018 #1 Share Posted August 14, 2018 We are on the getaway Jan 6th (our first cruise ever!) and have a couple random questions... 1. If we wanted to reserve a restaurant for sunset on embankment day, which restaurant on the getaway has the best view? 2. How much does it cost to do the behind the scenes tour? 3. Do you leave a note for your housekeeper (not sure if that’s the correct term) on the first day introducing yourself, asking them to empty the minibar, etc? 4. Do the cabins get “cool” at night with the air? We like to sleep with it being kinda chilly. 5.what are the air temps like outside while cruising in the western getaway, meaning is it common to open your balcony and enjoy fresh air or is it to hot for that? I feel like I have lots of questions...but that’s it for now..lol...thanks for all the help!
Paul Bogle Posted August 14, 2018 #2 Share Posted August 14, 2018 1) You will leave Miami heading east and then turn south. If you want to enjoy the sunset while dining you want an aft and/or starboard side restaurant. For included dining the Taste restaurant is probably the best choice. For specialty dining Moderno and Ocean Blue offer seating on the waterfront as well as indoors. 2) Don't know 3) You could leave a note asking the steward to empty the fridge. Most likely you will not need to do so as he will introduced himself to you in the afternoon. 4) The cabins have thermostats you can control. You can set your ac to icebox if you like and you will need a parka. 5) Even in January the weather will be hot and humid if the sun is out. You can open the balcony door for fresh air but be aware, when the balcony door is open the AC turns off so the cabin will get warm and humid quickly. If you open the cabin door while the balcony door is open you are likely to find yourself in a wind tunnel. Some people like to sleep with the balcony door open a bit so they can hear the ocean. If you do this you will not be able to keep the cabin really cold.

roger001 Posted August 14, 2018 #5 Share Posted August 14, 2018 Here's a huge number of pictures of the Getaway. They are several years old now. But it's mostly the same. Lots of pictures of the outdoor deck that the restaurants are located on. https://photos.google.com/share/AF1QipOu3t-LagaSph8-Q1NuSDlyonwWjDo7kuU556zrjiqPxe8DFGsGDauyzjuJpg5AYQ?key=aExpVl9rMkQ2WU8tUlI3RXhRUmZxeFJDZF81VHl3
dcruiser50 Posted August 14, 2018 #6 Share Posted August 14, 2018 If your main interest is seeing the sunset I recommend that you just stay on deck and have dinner either before or after, no guarantee that you will be near a window in the dinning rooms. Usual charge is $79.95 pp it's free for platinum and above You room steward will meet you, good possibility that the fridge will already be empty, since most are asking that it be emptied On the Breakaway, you need to put a card in the inside slot to activate lights, thermostat etc. You don't have to use your key card ant card will do. If you like it cool at night, close the door and turn down the thermostat Most of all don't sweat the small stuff and enjoy your cruise
Rare www3traveler Posted August 14, 2018 #7 Share Posted August 14, 2018 There a Behind The Scenes Tour offered on Sea Days. In 38 Norwegian cruises, I have never heard of a Hotel Director offering one at a Meet & Greet. Sometimes the Tour is offered at the same time as The Meet and Greet. You sign up for it at the Shore Excursions Desk. Be aware that lot of walking is required and you will need to wear closed toed shoes-- no flip flops or sandals. The tour lasts about 1 1/2 hours.
