It doesn't take a hurricane to change ports. High winds can make it difficult to dock the ships or prevent tenders from boarding passengers. Grand Cayman gets missed a lot because of the problem with tenders. We missed a port because of wind. The ship was almost at the pier but the Captain decided that it was too dangerous to make the final move so we wound up with another sea day.

Sometimes if possible, they will go to another port and other times they will just make it another sea day.

Missed grand cayman 2 times - winds making too much surface chop to tender safely. Very common here and both times just a sea.

Missed Princess Caye for same reason. No additional port - just a sea day.

None of these were in hurricane season - all in March.

Missed St Martin in August because there was a hurricane 400 miles out to sea creating swells. The capital tried to docket for an hour before it was determined it could not be done safely. Originally we were told sea day but then after 24 hours they managed to add Grand Turk to the end of the trip. That was a win in my book!

We just got back from the most recent cruise of the Pride. Because of Hurricane Florence, what was supposed to be a cruise to Bermuda (3 sea days/3 days in Bermuda) became a cruise to Grand Turk, Half Moon Cay and Freeport. Then Freeport was dropped as conditions with Hurricane Florence changed. The result was 4 sea days and 2 days at beaches. The crew, particularly the amazing CD, Dr. E, made this all bearable. And with the refund in port charges and taxes due to missing both Bermuda and Freeport, our snorkeling excursion in Grand Turk was essentially all paid for!
