janetmojo Posted October 6, 2018 Author #101 Share Posted October 6, 2018 Second round of apps included the ahi tuna tartare (prepared tableside) for Les. He must have enjoyed it as he ate the whole thing (I thought it looked way big enough to share.) I tried the lobster gnocchi. It was just the right flavors and a perfect size as well. The lobster bites were the same size as the gnocchi which were soft and pillowy. We really struggled with which main dishes to order and our waiter I feel like steered us the right direction (for the most part.) He highly recommended the fish even though I was skeptical about a fish dish marinated in honey. We finally decided on fish (mahogany cod) for Les, short ribs for me and scallops to share. He said he would bring some extra scallops so that dish may be presented differently than usual. Scallops...yummy. Tender, although I felt like they could have hard a slightly longer cook or better sear, they almost seemed underdone in the middle. Short ribs, this was the disappointing entree of the three. It didn’t even look pretty on the plate. They were tender but needed more sauce as they were a little dry, also more squash purée as the plate was just a big hunk of meat. Saving the best for last here is the fish. Buttery, cooked to perfection. It tasted sooo good! Highly recommend. High compliments from my husband who said “it doesn’t even taste like fish” [emoji23] Sent from my iPad using Tapatalk
janetmojo Posted October 6, 2018 Author #102 Share Posted October 6, 2018 I ordered a glass of port with dessert and hubby wanted a fancy after dinner drink as well and the waiter brought him some cognac. My port was perfect, hubby deemed the cognac “not my favorite.” I think it was his first time trying. Desserts up next. Chocolate tart for Les (amazingly similar to the one we had in Coastal Kitchen the night before) And these doughnuts of perfection, with chocolate and lemon sauces. Warm, sweet delicious doughnuts. This was a great meal overall and a lovely restaurant with great service (all of our service has been top notch!) Rare A&L_Ont Posted October 6, 2018 #103 Share Posted October 6, 2018 My mother in law loved the tart, me not so much. She loves dark chocolate. I liked the donuts from a year ago.
Ellceee Posted October 6, 2018 #104 Share Posted October 6, 2018 I've been following along! Your Chef's Table experience seemed VERY lackluster. I have it planned for next week's cruise on Anthem. Hoping it's a better experience!
janetmojo Posted October 6, 2018 Author #105 Share Posted October 6, 2018 So I slightly failed you guys yesterday, no breakfast pics (again). I had some secret plans for us to zip line in labadee but ended up letting hubby know the day before because his back had been bothering him and I needed to be sure he could do it. He said he was in [emoji106]. We met Susan at 9:30 with two other families to be escorted off. We ended up waiting a bit for some late folks and honestly should have just walked off ourselves. But she took us to the little golf cart for the short ride to the suite beach area. Sent from my iPad using Tapatalk
janetmojo Posted October 6, 2018 Author #106 Share Posted October 6, 2018 Zip lining was fun, not sure I’d do it again. We prefer the 2 hr type tour with lots of zips. This was a lot of waiting around in our uncomfortable harnesses (1 hr 15 mins in harnesses, 45 seconds of zipping.). But we can say we did it now :) We came back and ate lunch at the Suite beach buffet. I forgot to take pictures [emoji22]. I know it was supposedly upgraded but I thought it was just ok. We should have checked out the regular buffet to see how it compared. They did have some salad options, mixed greens, some slaw, some German potato salad. But they were out of ribs. The steak had been cooked awhile ago and the burgers were like a frozen mystery patty cooked up. I know that sounds harsh, maybe I’m getting spoiled. No chips, fries etc. I mean we didn’t starve or anything [emoji23]. We just got regular chairs under an umbrella, no need for a cabana for just us. We hung out in the water awhile, shared some floating mats with some other folks, they were hard to come by from 10-1 but as people left we could have had one no problem. I will say since the Suite beach area is on the “bay” side of the port it doesn’t get the nice ocean breeze the that other side gets. We stayed until almost three and then came back. So this is funny, the casino was supposed to be bringing us gifts each day, but for some reason they hadn’t brought anything. We actually hadn’t even gotten a welcome note or anything. Well I guess they figured it out because when we got back from the beach they had brought everything at once [emoji23] Wine, champagne and two plates of choc covered strawberries [emoji15] Sent from my iPad using Tapatalk
janetmojo Posted October 6, 2018 Author #107 Share Posted October 6, 2018 We enjoyed the suite lounge yesterday evening, let some folks (three different groups) tour our room, and played some in the casino. I’m losing and hubby has been winning which is fine, usually one of us is the biggest loser :) We headed back up for 8pm dinner in Coastal Kitchen and I’ll get those posted in a bit. We are currently having a bad storm and I think everyone and his brother must be inside on their devices so it’s very slllloooooow. Glide_Path Posted October 6, 2018 #108 Share Posted October 6, 2018 Hi Janet, still here enjoying your yummy pics. Have you tried the windjammer at all on this trip? Jumping ahead, as a star class guest, can the genie arrange breakfast in the suite on disembarkation morning?
janetmojo Posted October 6, 2018 Author #109 Share Posted October 6, 2018 Hi Janet, still here enjoying your yummy pics.Have you tried the windjammer at all on this trip? Jumping ahead, as a star class guest, can the genie arrange breakfast in the suite on disembarkation morning? Our goal has been to avoid the windjammer this trip [emoji23] we walked through a couple times but haven’t eaten anything there. As far as breakfast in your room at disembarkation-I’ll be finding out later today! We need to be off super early for our 10:30 flight. janetmojo Posted October 6, 2018 Author #110 Share Posted October 6, 2018 Dinner last night in Coastal Kitchen! The funny thing is when I saw the menu in advance I was totally going to order #allthethings There were sooo many things that looked good on the menu plus I still hadn’t even had any French onion soup #suitelifeproblems But once we sat down I just wasn’t as hungry. I ordered the truffle risotto to start (it wasn’t very truffle-y) And of course there was bread... Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
janetmojo Posted October 6, 2018 Author #111 Share Posted October 6, 2018 Ok maybe no bread pic, it tells me the bread picture is not allowed (must be some bad bread huh?) A better pic of risotto... Hubby had shrimp cocktail, regular size and the salmon sashimi. As far an entrees go, he ordered the lobster, well two tails actually and I ordered the lamb chops. (They must have been good he eventually had 5.). The lamb was a little disappointing, over cooked but no way I was ordering more, too full, too tired. Looking at my pictures I realized hubby ordered scallops too, he just wanted the scallops, no sides so here we have...naked scallops. janetmojo Posted October 6, 2018 Author #112 Share Posted October 6, 2018 We skipped dessert, I don’t know how hubby could even move after all that. Actually he’s hit a seafood wall, not cause he’s tired of it but he starts to break out in a rash. It’s happened before on a seafood laden trip to the Gulf. But he says if I give him some allergy pills he’ll be ok to get some more seafood for our last day [emoji23] We returned to our room, bringing a few more folks for a quick tour and arrived to a lovely surprise from our genie. USMC cufflinks, a beautiful cookbook and casino decorations. So thoughtful. Really Susan is the sweetest person and best genie I’ve ever had. She’s also the only genie I’ve ever had. janetmojo Posted October 7, 2018 Author #114 Share Posted October 7, 2018 Might as well finish this up waiting for my flight home (sniffle). And guess what folks? I have breakfast pics from yesterday. I took a few shots of the morning offerings in the suite lounge in case you ever wanted a quick bite. These stayed the same most of the week. janetmojo Posted October 7, 2018 Author #115 Share Posted October 7, 2018 We had breakfast in Coastal Kitchen (again) and the eggs Benedict were always cooked perfectly. Leslie had bacon and some toast as well (no pic). We had consistently excellent service in Coastal Kitchen all week. We loved eating there. We explored the ship a bit later in the morning. Checked out the advanced flow riders... And then it poured for awhile so I watched the flash mob practice and then I hit the t-shirt sale (that was a scary experience.) janetmojo Posted October 7, 2018 Author #116 Share Posted October 7, 2018 Lunch was hibachi at Izumi. Interestingly we had a 12:30 reservation and when we arrived they seated us at the 12 noon table. They already had their starters so I felt a little bad but then I realized the 12:30 table was totally full with a large group including a lot of kids. We were happy to be in the smaller group. We started with salad with a ginger dressing. Yeah, I ate part of it before the picture. It would be a trend for the rest of the day. We also had edamame while they prepared the fried rice and veggies (both were great!) Les ordered two orders of the spicy tuna app he enjoyed the other day. It took awhile to come so it was mid meal when they arrived. Sent from my iPad using Tapatalk
janetmojo Posted October 7, 2018 Author #117 Share Posted October 7, 2018 There were 7 of us at the table and 5 of us were Star class so I don’t know if these portions are accurate to a regular meal there but they cooked TONS of food. It looked like two filets and two lobster tail for each person that ordered that. I ordered the NY steak and scallops and there were so many. They even cooked extra shrimp and chicken and passed that around as well. [emoji15] I wish we had saved some and I could have eaten it cold for breakfast. :). We were stuffed and no dessert for us. We had a Star Class Bridge tour which was short and interesting. Later in the afternoon even though I wasn’t hungry I had a little more pizza, I mean I needed my strength for packing. janetmojo Posted October 7, 2018 Author #118 Share Posted October 7, 2018 I took a few pictures of the evening snacks in the Suite Lounge for you. The cold snacks were the same most days. The warm snacks changed but were basically the same kind of stuff. Fried stuff, chicken wings, baby kebabs. janetmojo Posted October 7, 2018 Author #119 Share Posted October 7, 2018 We had a dinner reservation at Chops but we just couldn’t do it. We were so tired of eating [emoji23]. So we packed, hit the casino and bar one last time and ate at Coastal Kitchen around 8pm. I ordered the French onion soup (finally) it was super hot and yummy but also very salty. I shared with hubby. Hubby ordered shrimp cocktail, the hibachi crudo (excellent) and a Caesar salad (so much for being tired of eating.) janetmojo Posted October 7, 2018 Author #120 Share Posted October 7, 2018 We both ordered the veal chop, mostly because it was something different than we have had all week. I always feel like they taste like pork chops. I prefer my meat with handles. We of course had to finish up with a shared dessert, the standard chocolate cake with vanilla ice cream. We took a quick spin on the carousel and finally got hubby into see Oceanaria. Sunrise this morning was beautiful and having our luggage carried off the ship for us this morning was one of the best perks of Star Class :). We walked out of our room at 7:25 and we were in an Uber by 7:47 for a 10:30 flight. I’ll post a little more follow up from home. Frick_&_Frack Posted October 7, 2018 #121 Share Posted October 7, 2018 Great pictures - reminds me of some of what I ate on Allure (and a lot of what I still have missed - I know, suite-life-problems LOL). Did need to ask - are you wearing LuLaRoe? Seems like it - you look awesome! Thanks for doing this! Heidi
