Just boarded Koningsdam, Internet is minute plans

Hope you had a wonder cruise! Did you happen to see the price/min if you don't buy Holland America's package?  We're on Koningsdam in less than a week for 11 days S. Caribbean.  We bought a Bell Canada plan for land but nothing for sea & hoping to connect here & there on the ship if needed - basic - facebook message.  Thanks for any info!

when not using a plan, the price per minute has always been 75 cents. I don't think that has changed.

Thanks so much richwmn for your quick reply!

The Koningsdam is supposed to be converted to the unlimited plans during the current drydock. The old per minute plans had discounted rates if you bought a bundle. I believe it worked out to $0.55/min if you bought $100 worth and $0.40/min if you bought $250.. However, all the HAL ships are supposed to be converted to unlimited "this fall" and we're quickly running out of autumn. You can probably call Holland America and get a price for your cruise. If all you want is FB messanger, you can get away with the low end Social Plan.

I forgot that Koningsdam was in dry dock, and POA1 is correct. She should come out of dry dock with the new plans. I don't believe the new plans have a "per minute" rate. The minimum you can buy is a 24 hr package which I thing was $24.95.

The one day package prices are Social: $14.99/day, Surf:: $24.99/day, and Premium: Premium: $29.99/day.  The per-day price drops considerably when you buy internet access for the length of your voyage.  Here's a price table that @richwmn posted a little while back. I think it's accurate, because it matches what I was quoted for our upcoming cruise.

Voyage Length Social Surf Premium

1 14.99 24.99 29.99

2 19.99 29.99 39.99

3 29.99 44.99 39.99

4 39.99 59.99 79.99

5 49.99 74.99 99.99

6 59.99 89.99 119.99

7 69.99 99.99 139.99

8 74.99 109.99 159.99

9 79.99 119.99 169.99

10 84.99 129.99 179.99

11 89.99 139.99 189.99

12 99.99 149.99 199.99

13 99.99 159.99 209.99

14 119.99 169.99 219.99

15 119.99 169.99 234.99

16 124.99 179.99 249.99

17 129.99 179.99 264.99

18 134.99 189.99 279.99

19 139.99 189.99 289.99

20 149.99 199.99 299.99

25 149.99 199.99 299.99

31 179.99 259.99 329.99

Post number 5 has the table formatted better. Several people have mentioned that it matches what they paid on various cruises.

I'm going to double check the 3 day Premium price. It seems like it should be $59.99, otherwise the per diem and incremental costs are out of line.

you are correct, and also if you notice the on the three day premium is less than surf. I would suspect that $59.99 is correct. I just copied an existing chart someone posted on the VoV Roll Call, and didn't check each level.

That's okay. It'll give me something to do. It might just be a typo from the person who input it on the VoV thread.

For completeness, I just asked on the Nieuw Statendam thread and internet is the unlimited plans.

Thanks, Rich! I could use the little thanks icon/button, but this seems more personal.

This is so helpful!! Thanks for reposting POA1!! It's not as scary as I imagined.  So if I were to buy 3 days as opposed to 1 day on an 11 day cruise just social (messaging), should be around $30 or $10/day? - I can call I'm just being lazy now 🙂

@denniti  I believe that you have to buy it as a block. I don't think you can buy 3 days to use at various points on a 7 day cruise if that makes sense. I'll double check next week when we're on the Zuiderdam.

In posts 32 - 35 we discussed that the 3 day price was probably a typo and should have been $59.99 or $20/day. The revised chart, with daily breakdown was reposted as post 37

I am virtually certain, POA1, that you are correct, that you cannot buy 3 days of unlimited internet on an 11-day cruise for the pro-rated daily price of an 11-day cruise unless you wait till day 8.  (In other words, if you buy on, e.g., day 5, I believe you will be charged for 6 days.)  On our 20-night Zuiderdam cruise a few months ago, the "unlimited" internet was sold as a block, at a specific rate on day 1 that worked out mathematically to just about $10/day as I posted earlier in this thread and as the price charts posted since show.   But it was not a daily charge -- they are selling you a block package for the whole cruise (or the part that's left if/when you decide to buy), not just for a number of days that you can pick and choose from at the outset when that number of days is less than the number of days remaining on your cruise.   (Relatedly, we had the Surf package. Each day that I logged on, I was offered an upgrade to the Premium package at a total rate that clearly had been prorated for the remainder of the cruise.)

Obviously, check this out on board, but given my experience and how the pricing works, I would be very surprised if it turned out to be otherwise.

I'll ask, but I'm planning on getting the whole 10 day voyage right away. I can use my phone and hotspot from it in port (free in the US, $5/day all our other stops) but I prefer to have the coverage. Under the old per-minute plans, I would have spent close to double what I'll pay for the middle tier.

I'll post the info on the plans as well as speed test results in my Live From which will crank up on Saturday the 15th. I don't really have to cover a whole lot of pre-cruise details, because this lacks excitement and isn't exactly brimming with photo ops:

  1. Got in elevator
  2. Went down to lobby
  3. Got in the cab
  4. Drove 10 minutes to the port

May we call and add(and pay for) plan before leaving?   We have a 51 day cruise later in the year and I would like to prepay as much as I can.  Thank you!

At this point, with the possible exception of the world cruises, there is no option to pre purchase the internet package. Your only option is to buy on board credit to cover the cost. That can be done online or by calling ship's services.
