artloversf Posted November 5, 2018 #1 Share Posted November 5, 2018 Hello all, Newbee here. Does HAL's Zaandam permit power strips? On Amazon, they have a few without surge protectors. How many power outlets in each cabin? I'm in a Main Deck ocean view. Embarking November 19. Many thanks! Guillermo

chengkp75 Posted November 5, 2018 #4 Share Posted November 5, 2018 Be very careful when purchasing a power strip on Amazon, as their descriptive ad copy does not always accurately depict the product. In particular, there is a product with power outlets and USB ports sold by "Cruise On" that claims to be "cruise ship compliant" and "not surge protected". Yet one of their own photos clearly shows a "VPN" (voltage protection number) printed on the back of the device. VPN is a rating of surge protection. crystalspin Posted November 6, 2018 #5 Share Posted November 6, 2018 HAL will provide you with a power strip if you contact ship services: hal_ship_services@hollandamerica.com. I also was able to take a short "outlet splitter" -- no switches, no lights, no Joule rating, just three outlets off the one plug in. The FAQs state: "Extension cords (without surge protectors) are allowed on board when used with proper caution. However, if such devices are determined to pose a hazard, they will be removed and returned the last day of the cruise prior to debark."
