Priority check in WITHIN progressive times???

Just got e mail about progressive check in times by deck.

I know these have been sent out before and everyone says to ignore them and come as you please BUT this time

it says that folks with priority will be accommodated WITHIN those specific check ins.

It says that IF you come earlier your cabin will NOT be ready.

What do you think about this??

We will be boarding in San Pedro for our first Princess cruise in a few weeks.

Correct the cabin will not be ready (until 1:00pm when they will announce they are ready) but Princess is now boarding around 11:00am ish and providing a secure location to check your bag onboard. They still have passengers with priority board first.

There is always that chance that there are issues with the prior cruise/inspections etc that could delay boarding.

I will take early boarding any day!!!

Its been happening for a few months.

Not enforced. Princess has been sending out these announcements for years. If you show up around 11am, you will most likely be on board by 12:30. Priority boarding usually begins around noon, sometimes earlier. You will board shortly thereafter. Once boarding begins it goes very quickly. Your cabin may or may not be ready. No big deal, just have some lunch. If you decide to show up around 1pm you will probably go through check in and be on board very quickly and you cabin should be ready.

Thanks for answering.  We don't like checking bags so hope we can keep them with us while we have lunch if our cabin is not ready. We have a suite and thought they'd be available when we board.

You don't have to check them. It's just an offer for convenience. Think they are trying to free up people dragging a bunch of luggage around.

Suites are not excluded as they are in the same areas that the regular cabins are.

We have had suites and had no access earlier than anyone else.

They have been closing the fire door access to the passenger cabin passageways. These will alarm if opened.

Of course there are always those that insist on making their way to their cabin anyway.

Go to the DR or buffet etc and have a nice relaxing lunch and by the time you are done eating they will be ready.

If you have a full suite there is an excellent chance your cabin will be ready, if not you may be able to get to your cabin when you board to drop your carry ons. As a full suite passenger you will be one of the 1st to board. If you can't get to your cabin you can bring your carry on into any location on the ship.

My flight from Australia arrives at LAX at 6:30am.

Even allowing for a long wait at border control and slow luggage, a leisurely breakfast somewhere too perhaps, I'm guessing we will still be at the port well before 11a.m. We don't have priority boarding for this cruise but as I have no alternative, I'm mentally prepared for a long wait. If we do get to board before 12 I'll be very happy.

You should be able to check your baggage with the porters around 9:30 or so. There is a nice walk along the harbor that can take about an hour. If you require supplies you can walk up to W. 6th St. to S. Gaffey St. There is a Rite Aid to the right and a CVS to the left. These are large pharmacy/other merchandise. There is also a Vons supermarket to the left on Gaffey St. a few blocks from the CVS.

Thank you!

It's good to have some ideas.

When we arrive at LAX we are actually planning on taking a free shuttle to a local hotel (where we have stayed before) to have breakfast. Then we will leave one of our party there while we do a quick trip to a local store for some supplies. Then back to the hotel and get an UBER to the port.

It's helpful to know that we have the option to leave our luggage with the porters very early.

In the end, I think what we will do will depend on how tired we are. At least we know that at the airport hotel we will be in a comfortable, large lobby with wifi and charging ports. But it's nice to know that a walk around the port area is also an option. Our last cruise was out of San Fran so I'm not familiar with the LA port area.

We had the Owners Suite on the Caribbean Princess this past August. Arrived around 12 pm, checked in and we were escorted on board by a nice young man in a tuxedo by 12:40 pm. He did not know what to do with us as the cabins were not ready. He asked if we would like to have lunch in the MDR and we politely declined and sat in Vines to wait. At 1:00 pm, the announcement was made the cabins were ready. I think the escort was supposed to take us to our cabin? No big deal. I do miss being able to go to your cabin if you board early.
