This will definitely NOT be to everyone's taste - however if you love Heavy Metal and love NCL and fancied a cruise down the US West Coast then check out the Megacruise which features Anthrax, Megadeth and whole load of other metal bands - and its on the Jewel!!! Ive never done a specialist cruise however there have been quite a few Rock oriented cruises lately and I know there are plenty of other specialist cruises too.

I wonder if they get any complaints about noise on this one - Hahahaha

Metalhead here, saw that one and it's definitely going to be cool.  We get a bunch of those sailing out of FL this time of year.  Kiss Kruise was just here in October, Chris Jericho has a Metal/Wrestling Cruise now, and Monsters of Rock going out of Tampa.  There's also 10000 Tons of Metal which goes out of Miami each year.  Definitely a lot to choose from for Metalheads!

Would certainly be surprised if we booked that one. We booked a cruise and it will be full of Parrotheads. There are lots of events for them and certain venues will be closed to everyone except these Parrotheads. The observation Lounge was closed during the day for 3 of the cruise days for events and then 2 nights too..

I believe that NCL (and other cruise lines) should make everyone that is booking aware that their ships are being chartered by large groups, no matter what they are. We were on one cruise were there was a very large religious group and events were held all days and every day and areas were closed. There were a couple occasions where we were approached and, while not being recruited, but were definitely preached to.

My wife did a last minute cruise one year, was the Rick Springfield cruise.  She didn't get access to the concert however.

I've heard nothing but good things about the Monsters of Rock of Megacruises.  it would be very cool to bump into some of the musicians in common areas like other passengers.

This cruise heads out tomorrow - Sunday 13th October - and Im going to be on it!! Felt weird filling in all the usual NCL documentation however it was easy for me because all my details were already stored.

There is a separate set of information about the cruise from the organisers and interestingly there is no dress code anywhere on the ship save for not wearing swimwear in the seated restaurants!!

I will report back as we go to give a flavour of the week!!

Had a great time on this cruise - the weird thing was that it is still NCL but heavy metal music plays everywhere, the announcements are made by the Megacruise team, and even the captain said a naughty word on occasion - there are no dress restrictions and to be honest I had a brilliant time. Everyone is there for the same thing and so the vibe and feel and music is all on point and if you like that kind of music then its great.

The only thing that was a touch strange is that there were two days at sea and we went from LA to San Diego to Ensenada and back so at times the ship was doing about 4knts and the route map showed it heading out into the Pacific for no apparent reason!! Maybe another  port would have been a good idea??

Other than that it was a really fun time and I had tacos and Margaritas in Mexico as Ive never been there (an Ensenada had the BIGGEST flag flying Ive ever seen!!)

So if you have a particular interest - music, food, art, etc etc etc then I can recommend a specialist cruise like this.

Oh and Band of the Week - Anthrax by a streak!!
