Hi there in April we are flying into FLL around 4 pm on 4/12 cruising out 4/13 from Miami.  Trying to figure the most economical but clean hotel wise way to go.  Not sure if we should just stay by fll airport and shuttle down the next am or what.  Has anyone done this and had a plan that worked well?  Thanks so much

A little reading around the board will find tons of info...this question is discussed here almost daily.

Arriving at that time, you will probably be best to stay in Ft Lauderdale, and shuttle or Uber to the Port Miami the next day.

Tons and tons of hotel recommendations here.

www.sunny.org has lots of FLL area hotel info.  We like the downtown/q7th street area with lots of nearby dining and shopping.

You have time to head to downtown Miami if you prefer - lots of hotels there will be close to dining and nightlife.

Shared shuttles like SAS, QLS, Go Airport and others are easy and the typical one way fare starts at $15 per person between FLL (and nearby hotels) and POM (and downtown Miami hotels).  Fewer shuttles operate later in the day when it is hard to fill the van - UberX or standard Lyft (good for 2-3 plus normal baggage) will run about $35+ between FLL and POM/downtown Miami.  Taxi on the same run will be about $70+

My wife and I are flying into FLL for our cruise out of Miami in January.  We have a private limo thru Expedia/Travelovity booked to take us to a hotel in Miami after our flight arrives.  This is our second time cruising out of Miami, and second time staying at Hilton Miami Airport Blue Lagoon.  They have a sailaway package - you get transfer to cruise port and free breakfast the morning of your cruise.  You can see the planes coming and going if on the right side of the hotel - has a nice pool and walking path too.

Given that time you have tons of options.

I would highly suggest looking into getting a hotel in Miami in either Downtown Miami or Brickell area. Hampton Inn Brickell is a highly recommended hotel. April with prices can be hit and miss though. If you stay in Miami you would just take an Uber/Lyft down to Miami from FLL. A normal Uber/Lyft for two adults would be around $35 + whatever tip you would like to give. You will have plenty of time to enjoy Brickell/Downtown and have dinner in the area. Your drive to your ship would be a $8-$10 uber ride from your hotel in this area, no more than 10-mins.

You could also stay in Ft. Lauderdale area. Either an airport hotel or something near by. That would require an airport shuttle or uber/lyft to your Ft. Lauderdale hotel. The next morning you would then do the $35 uber/lyft ride to the port. For two adults and normal bags a per-person charge shuttle does not make much sense. Takes longer and is around the same price.

Ft. Lauderdale hotels tend to be cheaper, especially ones by the airport.

You really need to price things out. But regardless for two adults Uber/Lyft is the way to go, and I see no benefit (other than potential hotel savings) on not just going down to Miami the day you fly in.

You might see how economical a one-way car rental option would be.  There are several companies that will let you pick up the car at FLL, drop it off at MIA,and then shuttle you to the cruise port from there.  It might give you more flexibility on hotel locations and the ability to do a little bit of exploring around town.
