hawkers Posted December 15, 2018 #1 Share Posted December 15, 2018 Looking for advice re Internet packages for Aus cruises this season please. For anyone who is traveling now or has done so this season what is available for Internet usuage once onbord? i see the unlimited packages available for pre purchase but wonder what is available once onboard. The unlimited packages are extremely pricey so just thinking there may be smaller ones once onboard. Also what is the service like? Fast or slow & does it drop out at all? any information greatly appreciated.
Rare keesar Posted December 15, 2018 #2 Share Posted December 15, 2018 Service was slow compared to our service at home. Slower on the first couple of days and on sea days. You can buy a package about halfway through your cruise. We use our free minutes and then decide. You do want to go with unlimited as the service can be really slow and "eat" your minutes. GastroGnome Posted December 15, 2018 #3 Share Posted December 15, 2018 We usually have unlimited on multiple devices - it comes free (well, not free but you pay for it differently...) with a Royal suite. It is slower than US speeds - people do tend to complain about that. But is certainly tolerable compared to UK speeds. It is slower on sea days but still adequate to stream movies from netflix etc. Different cabins can have issues because of the depth of the bulkhead and we lost internet altogether in the Fijords because of the geography. But mostly its fine. When we stay in a CS rather than an RS we buy one unlimited access and switch it between the three of us. Only one device at a time. You can get more limited packages, and I think you can use the ilounge on a "pay as you go" basis. The crew always know where to go onshore to get free wifi! jagoffee Posted December 15, 2018 #4 Share Posted December 15, 2018 We completed an 18 day cruise on the Solstice in October. We thought the internet speed and quality was good. It was not perfect, but good. We find that we need at least one unlimited package, so we are not concerned about logging off or getting “hung up”. Personally I would never buy a per minute package if I had other options.
Rare Jim_Iain Posted December 15, 2018 #5 Share Posted December 15, 2018 (edited) You will not find much different offering once on board the ship. Generally they offer the full cruise internet package at a set price and no discounts are offered. They also offer a 1 hour rate and a one day rate. See below. The also usually offer a 50% off half way through the cruise. Cost shown is is per day for the total number of days of the cruise. Discounts also given for Elite or above levels.
