PittsburghNative Posted January 7, 2019 #1 Share Posted January 7, 2019 Is this activity worth the $$$$? It looks like so much fun but it’s over in a minute. Is there a better excursion to put my money toward?
AKStafford Posted January 8, 2019 #2 Share Posted January 8, 2019 Icy Strait Point is a great spot to do a whale watching tour. Here's the local vendors: http://visithoonah.com/tours.html
Suzanne123 Posted January 8, 2019 #3 Share Posted January 8, 2019 Since you’re from Pittsburgh, imagine the Duquesne incline only 4 times higher. It’s fun, but I wouldn’t spend the money if it’s all you’re going to do. If money is tight, take one of the cheap whale watches, or take a bus out to the Mendenhall Glacier. Go PITT! Think you have your ports mixed up, you aren't going to get to Mendenhall by bus from Icy Straight Point. As far as the Ziprider goes, we had a friend that did it and she absolutely loved it! We did a whale watch trip with Glacier WInd which was wonderful. It really comes down to personal preference.
Suzanne123 Posted January 8, 2019 #5 Share Posted January 8, 2019 You’re right. My apologies for the mix- up. I thought she meant the Mt. Roberts tram.

The Pittsburgh comparison helped me realize how tall the Ziprider is! Thanks for the info! And GO PITT! 🙂 Also thanks for those who responded to my question! SightCRR Posted January 9, 2019 #7 Share Posted January 9, 2019 Search youtube and you will see several videos of what it is like. 45 Min bus ride up, 45 sec ride down. If you do decide to go bring some eye protection (ski goggles or similar) for the fog/mist and going 60 mph.
