  1. If flying into or out of Seattle 5/9-10/2024 look up the news about Biden's visit.
  2. In addition 15% FCC so you will spend more money.
  3. Look on youtube for last years Alaska hikes. Skagway has great looking ones easy and hard. Some train up hike down. Look for personal ones. Chris Wong is one name to search Ak cities.
  4. Hubber Glacier, Glacier Bay and one sea day. Rest of 7 day ports. Good thing 50 bucks wont last long or do a quick cash out.
  5. Except for the ginger buy it in ANC so you don't have to pack it and worry about customs. You can also get what you have forgotten. Lots of stores. If that short of time you may have to rethink your visit.
  6. We had great time with Costal. Pilot mapped out our route on a brochure after flight. It was really great.
  7. I would think the Sitka bus ride back to the ship would not be great with salt water wet clothes.
  8. Plan for hike if not raining and plan for museums if raining. You can check youtube for more info.
  9. We had good luck with Costal Helo in Juneau. Call direct. Remember AK time is one hour later than Seattle. Many times weather cancels so be ready with back up plans. Likely been full for several weeks but may have someone canceled. Skagway may have better chance with better weather.
  10. I think that most of the rental cars have to be picked up at the airport this year. Not 100% sure but something to check and factor in getting to and from.
  11. Check youtube for last years reviews. It will show you everything you need to know.
  12. Spend the first sea day going around to spot out the best spots. Consider all types of weather, entering and exiting the glaciers, and look for spots that others might not find. One HAL ship had a great deck that the access was through the gym.
  13. Find some photos of the glacier from 2023. I think that it has receded in a major way since 2016. It won't be long in glacier years until you will not be able to see it from the visitor center much like Portage Glacier.
  14. Youtube has lots of various looks. Here is one. Skagway Alaska with Princess Cruises. Dog Sled Summer Musher Camp. 🐶 (youtube.com)
  15. We haven't done it yet so can't recommend it but we booked a glacier bay flight from Haines. Glacier Bay Flightseeing with Mountain Flying Service
  16. Cruise Ship Schedule Calendar Combined Ports (claalaska.com) fyi you can see all your docks and times if you search schedule.
  17. For Sept cruise look into Ketchikan Herring Cove tour so you can see black bears eating salmon. The Skagway train will be about the same price either cruise line or on your own but cruise line to train will be closer walk. Juneau whale watch. Victoria with late arrival just walk to downtown in the dark or don't bother. Sept helo likely not flying in Sept a few other tours will end in Aug. Tracy arm long boat ride 90 min each way to get there.
  18. Look into Juneau city gardens near shrine. Small parking lot but nice gardens and beach walk. If it rains rental car will come in very handy. Roads will still be fine. Make sure your rain gear is up to the task. Very few roads so hard to get lost. Search youtubes for videos of sites. Newest possible and not the ad ones. My fav webcam: TheSnowCloud Juneau area Webcams
  19. Here is my favorite Juneau and ISP web cam that will show you what tram is like. TheSnowCloud Juneau area Webcams Look up the Whale Project, AK museum and the fish hatchery. I would think that in Sept it would have tons of salmon along with many eagles. Keep eyes open for black bears in Sept towards salmon streams. Depending on your pier whale project and museum are within walking distance. Cab to hatchery.
  20. T/B is less than 10 min bus ride from Ward Cove. Check bus schedule but I think once per hour.
  21. fyi, In our family you are only allowed to point out the first 10-15 eagles. After that it gets to boring unless multiple eagles are in the same tree.
  22. Check youtube for several personal (not the ad ones) videos of the tour. If you do decide to go make sure that you know how to use the sports settings on the cameras. Practice on birds of your area. Just checked the price and it is $229 p/p. Glad we saw it several years ago when under $100.
  23. It is my understanding that the crab boat tour is in First Nation Tribal waters when they feed the eagles. Other feedings likely illegal but very few if any enforcement. Even having eagle feathers likely to get you in hot water. Saw feathers at Eagle beach in Juneau but just took a photo.
