  1. NCL just changed Deception Island for Admiralty Bay in Jan 2023 on their drive by. sightcrr.
  2. I am a big fan of my Sony HX400. I have or had and given to family 5 of them either 400 or 300. Had to replace lens of two of them. They had zoom errors. All bought used on ebay. Very good youtube videos on how to get the best out of them. For whale watching also take the phone for videos of breaches then copy stills from them. sightcrr
  3. I think you made a smart move. 1 to 330 to do tram & short hike around top tram station if you can see top from lower tram station, locate meeting spot then light lunch to hold you until 8. On the whale trip use video on camera/phone then save as singles to get good breaching.
  4. Mount Roberts Tramway to AJ Dock - Google Maps You dock at one of the furthest docks away. They have a free bus but I don't know how soon it will start or if ship will be early or late. It is a 20 min. walk. Maybe cab would work. I would contact Alaska Tales and they may have a solution. I would say with the info you provided it would be sketchy and you would have to be one of the first people off. sightcrr

    Juneau Dock

On the claalaska site the page that says berth codes says AS in Juneau is Alaska Steamship Dock. From there go to google and you will see it near the north end of the rest of the piers. Mount Roberts Tramway to Alaska Steamship Dock - Google Maps sightcrr
  6. I think arrivecan is it tied electronically to your passport so just because someone doesn't ask for it doesn't mean that they didn't view the data.
  7. How about a summer cruise in South America (Jan-Feb) to see some penguins? sightcrr
  8. If they want the salmon without the bears check out DIPAC Macaulay Salmon Hatchery, 2697 Channel Dr, Juneau, AK 99801 Ladd Macaulay Visitor Center — DIPAC It is about 10 min taxi ride from the main Juneau piers. sightcrr
  9. Before you go much further search youtube for alaska cruises and watch some videos without the wife then show her the good ones. Search for most recent by individuals not the ad ones. "shiplife" had a pretty good series about a month ago on rccl. sightcrr.
  10. Thanks for the photos and trip review. Especially the diet info. In the past we had a hard time with only dairy free let alone g/f. It was easier on HAL ship. sightcrr.
  11. This link has a great review of HAL cruise tour with lots of info and photos for other cruise lines. Semi live review Y1L Holland America’s Alaska Land and Sea CruiseTour, June 1 – June 19, 2022 - Page 6 - Holland America Line - Cruise Critic Community sightcrr
  12. I cannot answer your question and have not seen much info on trail. About 2 weeks ago Ozark_Kid off the RCCL line covered a little bit of trail. Start w/ post #294. 13. If dog sled is land based (not helo) and you want to see what it looks like here is a video. Spoiler alert if you don't want to see what is like don't watch it. From about 2 weeks ago. I TOOK MY MOM DOG SLEDDING IN SKAGWAY ALASKA! | PLAYING WITH HUSKY PUPPIES - YouTube I would also say no problem with timing. sightcrr.
  14. fyi a youtube vlogger (shiplife) was in Skagway two weeks ago. He said that for train online tickets only 90% are sold and 10% are reserved for walk up on the pier or in the train station. He went on dog sled tour but talks about the train at about 5:30 of this video. I TOOK MY MOM DOG SLEDDING IN SKAGWAY ALASKA! | PLAYING WITH HUSKY PUPPIES - YouTube ymmv. sightcrr
  15. Here is the schedule. Pick the port then the date. Then another page for the pier codes. 2022 Schedules | Cruise Line Agencies of Alaska (claalaska.com) FYI the Skagway bus is a long bus ride with many stops but check with them about a B/R. I am thinking there is not one on the bus. Especially if few people on a van. sightcrr
  16. Go online and find, copy and take a good deck plan. The first day at sea use that to scout out where the best viewing spots are for viewing or photos. Plan for if it is raining or sunny. Front of ship and back. High and low and try to find spots that others might not notice. I have found great spots that you had to cut through the gym to get to. For glacier days if you stay in your room waiting for the ship to rotate you have missed 1/2 of the viewing. I don't have any Encore special spots since I have not been on her. sightcrr.
  17. Juneau, I would not buy tickets ahead to check if you can see the top unless excursion includes more than just the tram. ISP, I would do 1045 to give the fog time to lift if doing zip line. With new gondola I am not sure how long it takes to do top viewing. sightcrr
  18. Juneau, you will find very few places that have whale tours as good as Juneau. Skagway, Sit on the right side of bus going up. On the road may be your best shot at seeing a bear. Ketch, very difficult to see bears, For sea-life check out the Crab Boat tour. Pricey but the eagle viewing is second to none. It has very little to do with the TV show. Also check where you dock. Ward Cove is 5 miles and a free (I think) bus ride to town but it takes time. Vic, B/G is a long ways from pier and with late hours do ship tour. It will have fairly long bus ride and to see much of it requires lots of walking/wheelchair/walker. May not work for B-I-L. Lots of daylight around 8/6. Unlike Carib. not many good tours left to book at pier. Check youtube for videos of tours to get an idea if they will work. Try to find the latest. 2022 only for Skagway. You will find just about all the tours that are available. sightcrr.
  19. Skagway has this one. Video from couple weeks ago from shiplife. I TOOK MY MOM DOG SLEDDING IN SKAGWAY ALASKA! | PLAYING WITH HUSKY PUPPIES - YouTube sightcrr
  20. I am puzzled by your title since you won't see glaciers except at long distances from either tour. The timing of the year makes a lot of difference on the Eagle sighting. We went once and there were no salmon and therefore no eagles (or any other wildlife). Check youtube for each tour and you can see the difference. On the train videos ignore anything past the summit or view 2022 videos. Current trip is round trip so you get a second look at everything. sightcrr
  21. T/T, Thanks for all the info. Sounds like a great trip. Forgot to ask if you got to see the mt. take care, sightcrr
  22. Please let us know which Denali park bus tour you took and if the road closure had an impact. Did you see any wildlife. Thanks for any info. Take Care, sightcrr
  23. View tour excursions and ship insights on youtube. Just about every tour and ship will be there. Look for the latest. Read up about the ArriveCan phone app which is required to board the ship. Then read up about Ketchikan and being 5 miles out of town at Ward Cove. Be aware that lunch at Tracy's in Juneau will be close if not over $100. sightcrr
  24. It seems that may be part of the reason that several of the embarkations have been long is people finding out they need ArriveCan and struggling to find wifi and or smartphones while trying to get on board. sightcrr.
  25. Yes you need it to board the ship. Outside vender sounds like Skagway. Your ship is in Canadian waters for much of the trip besides your stop in Victoria. COVID-19: Use ArriveCAN to enter Canada - Canada.ca sightcrr
