If Ovation looks like not Ward Cove which is good and likely short tender but long tender lines in Skagway. 2022 Schedules | Cruise Line Agencies of Alaska (claalaska.com) Check youtube for any tours you are interested in. Almost everyone will be there. Dog sled on road cart might be fun. Skagway or Juneau. If Ovation check Chris Wong Videos on youtube. He works in the casino and does videos on the ports. Fun to watch. On any tour you are thinking about make sure the kids are old enough. 2& 5 will be to young to go on many of the tours which will mean that at least some of the adults can't go. For sure two will be to young for boat tours (whales crab etc) and maybe the 5 year old. If Ketch port is Ward Cove make sure you read up about the port transportation. Rental cars is a great idea. Many cities will have beaches to go and throw rocks etc. Don't bother with Victoria as it is to short and far away to fiddle with. sightcrr

Let me change my reply from 1/3 to 1/2 to some people couldn't go on cruise. I would choose not to be one stuck in hotel. Here is one more then I am done with this. Maybe 2023 will be different. I have not ridden it but grand-kids have and they really enjoyed it. By putting both arms out it will slow descent a little. One arm out will rotate you. Ride is over in about 45 secs. We had them wear goggles since the speed is close to 60 mph and chance of fog in the mountains in the am is high. I don't think it is the longest in the world any more but in the top 6. About 1/3 to 1/2 of the people this year who did land first got c-19 and could not board ship for cruise and several had to quarantine in ANC. From this years reviews and maybe only one of the party but enough to mess things up. sightcrr

Is it for 2023 or 24? If 23 the Denali road is likely not to be open yet and c-19 will still have some or many places at reduced capacities so I would skip the tour portion. Look at the HAL 14 day cruise in May 23 which will be Vancouver RT and take you to several different cities with good port times. sightcrr

If they let her get on board it sounds great. EWR -SEA vs EWR-JUN = about the same. Skip long boring sea day and instead have 1.5 more days in JUN. Skip the long lines and close quarters boarding the ship in SEA. Get new wardrobe because suitcase is still in EWR. Hope carry on has important stuff. Wish them the best and it might even be worth the PVSA charge. sightcrr

It seems to me that PVSA would be the last of her worries since the ship stops in Victoria on the way back to Seattle. They might even get an extra day in Juneau since the ship doesn't get there until Mon the 8th. That said this site would be the last place I would take advice from in this situation. sightcrr

It didn't make any sense to me either as they are clearly in the photos of the ship. Another link said they are ok for lifeboats but not certified in US waters for tenders because of lack of certain extra equipment and personal quals. sightcrr.

Make sure you let whoever you booked with know of his intolerance. Besides having l/f milk if he has to be dairy free in food that is a whole different issue which will involve preordering in the MDR or verifying with someone what he can have at the buffets. We found HAL to be very good with wife's requirement to be d/f but the desserts were mostly fruit plates and a few sorbets. Shore excursions were a huge challenge. sightcrr.

Because the dog tours are only to certain spots where the dogs are sometimes, they can fly to other spots on the glaciers without the dogs. Be ready to answer the question "Do you want to fly to another spot without the dogs for less money?" Not sure how rcl handles that. sightcrr
