    Skagway

As another heads up if you are on RCCL you may be tendering in Skagway due to the rock slide which may take a little bit of time off of your total port time. sightcrr
  2. Using google street view one route you can see what it is like. The other route must have had a closed gate (show open). Looks like no sidewalks. Ward Cove wasn't open much before the c-19 shutdown which I think is the reason for the lack of info. Ward Lake Nature Trailhead to Ward Cove cruise ship pier - Google Maps sightcrr
  3. You might try this site and or call. If you call remember that they are on AK time which is one hour ahead of SEA. For their 3 mile guided hike they drive 15 min to trailhead. $140. The Mill at Ward Cove | Ketchikan Marine Industry Businesses (ketchikan-marine-industry.com) sightcrr
  4. One earlier 2022 HAL cruise tour with the land first only 17 out of 33 in group were allowed to board the ship because of + c-19 tests. Not all were positive but had at least one person traveling together +. sightcrr
  5. If Ketchikan is one of the stops try to get on the crab boat tour. Check book your own then figure out how to get there from Ward Cove. It is pricey but you will never see bald eagles like it again. Trip Report w/Pics HAL Alaska June 19-26, 2022 Seattle Roundtrip Westerdam - Page 4 - Holland America Line - Cruise Critic Community Start with post #67. Be advised they were not at Ward Cove. sightcrr.
  6. Sitka is very easy to do on your own. Here is a link to all the info. Follow the links for more info and skip the parts that cover ship info. Watch time for all aboard because that is on you. After the totems watch the river water for eagles and salmon. What other stops? Sitka Self Walking Tour... - Alaska - Cruise Critic Community sightcrr
  7. Here is one in Sept with good port times if you can swing 14 days. We are trying to figure out about Sept 22 or May 23. N267 14-DAY GREAT ALASKAN EXPLORER (hollandamerica.com)

    Haines

Look into the Hammer museum if they are open. If they are closed at least walk by to see the roof. sightcrr.

    Skagway

Check youtube videos for ideas. Look for ones that are new and not ads. Here is a sample. Just about every tour will have videos. Be ready to change to Skagway if the helo gets canceled unless after. I TOOK MY MOM DOG SLEDDING IN SKAGWAY ALASKA! | PLAYING WITH HUSKY PUPPIES - YouTube sightcrr
  10. Very similar to getting on or off in Anchorage when the reality is 1.5 to 2.5 hr drive to the port departure point. sightcrr.
  11. Lots of cams. Here are two of my favs. Juneau and bear cam at Katami. TheSnowCloud Juneau area Webcams Katmai Bear Cam - Brown Bears at Brooks Falls | Explore.org For still photos updated often the FAA has cameras facing 4 directions at hundreds of airstrips. FAA WeatherCams sightcrr
  12. I have not hiked it but from research it looks great. Ward Lake and Ward Creek Trail - Alaska | AllTrails I am guessing that in Sept you may still need lots of bug repellent. Other than being close to Totem Bight this seems like one of the few good things about Ward Cove. sightcrr.
  13. I would think that hitting the wheels (props) and throwing it off balance resulting in all kinds of bad vibrations could be an issue. sightcrr
  14. From this web cam it looks like ship is still there. TheSnowCloud Juneau area Webcams sightcrr.
  15. First tip don't bother with combined trip. One way is to book the Blue Bus to the glacier. Land Tours | m-m-tours-of-juneau (mmtoursofjuneau.com) It leaves and returns very near the tram ticket and loading area. Check the canceling policy. Depending on if the ship is late and how long it takes to get off the ship and to the tram area will determine if you have time for both or either. Check the timing for the last bus back from the glacier. (sometimes it is 6:00pm.). Upon being back at the tram check to see if you can see the top. If you can't due to weather don't bother. Then check the timing for last tram down. and see if that will work including time to get back to ship. Likely not much of a line. Leaving at 8 pm may mean all aboard at 7:30. I have got to say your inport time stinks but you likely already know that. Check youtube and you will be able to see everything including bus tickets, tram, trail to falls. Just about the whole thing. Look for the latest ones by individuals not the ad ones. Mendenhall Glacier & Nugget Falls Shore Excursion - Juneau Alaska - YouTube sightcrr
  16. My guess is that they don't have the staff for the caboose with a small number of people. I would bet that WP&YR knew they weren't going to offer this excursion in Apr 22 when they dropped going to Canada and the cruise line never got the word or never listened to what WP&YR said. But again that is my hunch. Some of the cruise lines were still offering to book excursions that everyone except the cruise line knew weren't going to go. sightcrr
  17. After the Skagway rockslide one of the big ships may not be able to dock there and as a result the train may have more seats. I don't know how long the port calls will be affected. One ship visit got canceled today 6/23. Rockslide damages cruise dock in Skagway, forces ship to skip port call (adn.com) sightcrr.
  18. If your ship is at Ward Cove in Ketch then Totem Bight, is a 5 min bus ride away from town. Anywhere your ship is you will likely have time to visit more than one in Ketch if you want to. Sitka not on the list of stops. sightcrr.
  19. p/f follow the map on post one. sightcrr.
  20. In May a vlogger reported that the WP&YR leaves 10 % of the total tickets for walk up passengers that will not be available to book via phone or online. If you have a fairly small group and still want to ride call and ask if that is the case. Then get off the ship as soon as you can and head for the ticket sales. I TOOK MY MOM DOG SLEDDING IN SKAGWAY ALASKA! | PLAYING WITH HUSKY PUPPIES - YouTube You will have to find somewhere else to eat but it is shorter ride than nomal just to the US /CA border so should have time for lunch. sightcrr.
  21. Here is a youtube that shows how they did the bus ride from rccl. Cant tell from the title and you can skip the last one half if you want. ANNOYING @CHRIS WONG VLOGS AT WORK | MY MOM HATES ROUGH SEA DAYS, BUYING CREW SUSHI & MORE! - YouTube sightcrr
  22. There are lines. It depends on how fast the busses fill up. They leave when full. Also depends on if there is another ship tied up across the pier or if they are running tenders since one of the mooring was damaged and being repaired. Different ships use the same bus. sightcrr
