Upsell Call today

We received a call from Carnival today, offering an upsell from our inside cabin on Lobby deck 3 to a Balcony cabin on the Horizon in April.  It was going to be $550 ish total.  I asked where the balcony cabins were located and she said Deck 6, 7 or 9.  I decided to decline at that point without wasting any more of her time.  I am happy with our location for an inside.  It is under the lounge/theater that becomes a disco at night- but I am okay with that for the most part.  I know the last time I checked to see balcony prices it would have been around $900-$1000 more for a balcony room so the price was better than a standard booking would have been.  I like the balcony cabins a lot, but since we have two cruises planned this spring I am trying to stay inside and keep the budget reasonable.  Watch your phone if you are looking for upgrades because they are calling.  Our room is an inside cabin for 4, and there are only 2 of us, so that may be why we got the call.

You did the right thing:

1-   You could end up with an undesirable location

2-  If the lounge becomes a disco at night definitely you did the right thing!!

3-  You have two cruises planned still and can use that money for other expenses for those cruise

Oh oh your so right misunderstood it.  Yikes.

Yes, crazy, huh?  Our cabin is under the very back edge of the disco.  It is pretty close to the stairs so although I am sure it will be noisy- it is also very convenient to the lobby bar.  This is a casino premiere cruise for us so I chose from the available cabins on the offer, and think this will work out okay.  There are balconies in some pretty noisy locations too.  We were above the disco a few years ago on a casino perk cruise, and my husband and I had to laugh when the bass started thumping and vibrating the bed.  We would go get pizza and play some cards until either it stopped, or we were too tired to care.  :-)

Way to high for an upsell to balcony

I thought it was high too. I thought the regular booking rate for the balcony was kind of silly to begin with.  Like my husband said after I declined the upsell, $500 will pay for two pretty snazzy excursions in aruba and curacao, plus drinks on those islands, with change left over.

What cabin do you have, I think if you have 3242, 46, 50 or 3247,43, 39 you may be ok.  Its like you said, its a premier cruise so enjoy.

We have Cabin 3243 on the starboard side.  It looks like it is under the corridor into the disco (hopefully) instead of directly under the dancing area.  Either way, I do not expect it to be quiet... so it will work out fine.  We are pretty adaptable when we travel and I am actually curious to see what it will be like so close to the lobby.  I am just THRILLED to be fitting in two cruises, one in February and one in April on Premiere offers.

To the OP, as long as you don’t mind staying up until 1-2 AM every night, or if you are someone who can sleep thru anything, you should be fine in your current cabin.

We are usually up until 1 without too much prompting.  I am a bit of an insomniac so when I finally sleep, the noise may not interfere.  I knew where this cabin was before I pulled the trigger on the booking.   I am sure we will be fine regardless.

that seems high.  i have had  4 up sell calls.  from an inside to a balcony has always been $250 total.  once on the glory i had a choice $250 to go from inside to balcony or $300 to go to aft wrap around balcony.  i of course jumped all over the aft wrap around balcony.  that was the best cabin i  have ever had.

I just received an upsell e-mail.  It was for the Legend. Panama Canal 2020, From an obstructed  balcony on Deck five to an extended balcony on Panorama  Deck. $84 dollars. I am Thrilled. That said. we have been on 20 cruises with Carnival, are Platinum with Princess, sailed several times on HAL, On Celebrity  and RCI, And NCL  and  that is only the third time we have gotten one.  Once we went to a suite for $400. first and last suite. Loved it but......and an upgrade to a Mini-suite on Princess once.   BUT  I did book with a Not named Online TA  years ago, and he put us with a large group that suddenly had some not going and we got a lovely balcony.  The group were basket weavers,  They had the straw handicrafts   they made in the MDR  in the morning  on display at the end of the cruise.  I also  book guarantees a lot with HAL. I always get a  better cabin  than the rate I guaranteed.   I never got a free cruise when Carnival was passing those out.  It is funny now, but I am glad they don't do that promotion any more.  And casino cruises are not free. The people who get those totally deserve them. . Everyone will get at least one great upgrade if you sail long enough.
