surfcitygirl Posted January 25, 2019 #1 Share Posted January 25, 2019 We are scheduled to board a transatlantic back to Ft Lauderdale boarding in Barcelona instead of it's starting port of Civitavechhia. We had to get special permission to board on a a different day and that form includes a disclaimer that if the ship doesn't dock in Barcelona, we would be out of luck (we could of course board at another port later). So just wondering how often a ship skips Barcelona as a port. My gut feeling is that it would not happen often. thanks.
MeHeartCruising Posted January 26, 2019 #2 Share Posted January 26, 2019 Gosh, I don't think I've ever heard of it happening. The port has a protective sea wall that really separates it from any rough water conditions on the Mediterranean. I suppose it's possible, but I would really doubt you'll have any issues at all. dogs4fun Posted January 26, 2019 #3 Share Posted January 26, 2019 We've only docked in Barcelona twice - have never had any issues nor have we heard of any missed ports in BCN. Of course, anything is possible. Several years ago, we were in much the same situation as you - we had booked a TA from Barcelona to Miami. The TA was scheduled to depart BCN several days after the conclusion of a Med cruise we had completed on a different cruise line. Had no issues whatsoever. Good luck - I suspect you will be fine. lamchops Posted January 26, 2019 #4 Share Posted January 26, 2019 Barcelona is “cruise hub” port which is a starting and/or ending port for many cruises. I have never experienced or read about any cancellations of Barcelona.
surfcitygirl Posted January 26, 2019 Author #5 Share Posted January 26, 2019 Thank you all so much for your replies. I was thinking it should not be a problem, but it's always so reassuring to get other Cruisers input. That's pat of what makes Cruise Critic so great - it's members. Thanks again. wheezedr Posted January 27, 2019 #6 Share Posted January 27, 2019 Barcelona is a major port and a point for embarkation for multiple cruises. While I guess it would be possible for a ship to sail on by, I have never heard of it occurring and think it would be highly unlikely.
JimmyTheSaint Posted January 31, 2019 #7 Share Posted January 31, 2019 It would take something monumentally freakish for a ship not to dock in Barcelona. It's probably the biggest cruise port in Europe which is why so many cruise lines use it as an embarkation or disembarkation port. Hopefully nothing monumentally freakish occurs.
