E23NK1 Posted February 18, 2019 #1 Share Posted February 18, 2019 Are there any restaurants in Ft Lauderdale that we can watch the Saturday sailaways prior to our Sunday cruise?...something like Fishlips in Pt Canaveral. Thanks for the recommendations. Eric
jordanaire Posted February 18, 2019 #2 Share Posted February 18, 2019 My answer would be "no", as the port is in an industrial-type area with no restaurants. And since it's just a very short trip out of the port to the ocean, there's nothing but residential homes there.
rkkunk Posted February 18, 2019 #3 Share Posted February 18, 2019 Isn’t there a beach or is it a park where you can go to watch the ships leaving port?
Ken at the beach Posted February 18, 2019 #4 Share Posted February 18, 2019 No restaurants. A great spot is the beach on the North side of the channel.

Bee Guy Posted February 18, 2019 #6 Share Posted February 18, 2019 We have watched them from Hollywood Beach, but it is from quite a distance.

rkkunk Posted February 18, 2019 #8 Share Posted February 18, 2019 We were thinking about going to watch the ships leave on a Sunday evening. We are staying overnight as the flight was MUCH less expensive to fly out on Monday. Where would we tell an Uber driver to take us for drop off? rkkunk Posted February 18, 2019 #10 Share Posted February 18, 2019 Thanks Ken! We have never watched the ships leave port. Will be interesting to see them from that perspective. Thought it would be a good way to kill some time.
kalliekae Posted February 18, 2019 #11 Share Posted February 18, 2019 We watched the ships depart from the beach at the Marriott Harbor Beach Resort. There is also a nice bar with loungers on the outside, elevated deck that gives you a nice view. The ships are not real close, but you can definitely see them. Weve seen even some hilarious situations with people sunbathing on that beach not knowing what the ships do to the water.

Looks about right. It is a long walkway from where you enter off the street to the beach. It was pretty easy to find when we went there our first time. Xport Posted February 19, 2019 #20 Share Posted February 19, 2019 (edited) I'm a local... Fifteenth Street Fisheries--located on the west side of the Intracoastal Waterway just south of the Seventeenth Street Causeway and the channel leading from the port to the ocean--is a great place to watch the parade of departing ships... It's located just behind/a bit forward of the Hilton Marina but--due to canals--one can't readily walk from the hotel... Fifteenth Street Fisheries is a stop on some Fort Lauderdale Water Taxi routes... First level offers a covered outdoor bar with appetizers/light meals available if desired... Main restaurant is on the second floor... Suggest you give it a Google! No, I'm not associated with the restaurant... Yes it saved a lot for us to leave on Monday. We usually just fly home on Sunday, but it was just too expensive this time. But, this was also an unplanned kinda last minute trip. Having to travel from California can be a pain.
