Rome tour with Colosseum

Looking for a tour of Rome (preferably from port to Rome) that does the colosseum and and not focused on the Vatican. Really would like to see the Colosseum and the other areas of Rome with maybe some free time. I may have to organize a small group tour with Roll call! Looking to keep it around 100.00 and would like smaller group and not huge tour bus! It will be in the summer so a little concerned of the train and then trying to find our way around from the station.

Most standard vendors will customize tours to your desires... just ask them. Try Rome in Limo...great company. For a group of 8 you should be around $100 per person. That will include transportation from the ship.

I agree with bruce that if you want a somewhat customized tour of Rome, any of the recommended companies can work with you to put together what you want to see.  A private tour means that you are able to do things however you want (within the limitations of available time.)

 

Assuming there are two of you, if you can find even four other people to share,  you should be at about $100 per person.

 

Do keep in mind that these companies provide transportation and usually some information but they are NOT able to go with you into the site, so you should bring your own guidebook or perhaps consider downloading the Rick Steves podcast tour for the Colosseum. 

 

Also be aware that if you purchase your tickets for the Colosseum in advance (which is often recommended), you need to be sure of EXACTLY what you are purchasing and what time and where you need to show up. There are a number of restrictions and rules. I would recommend studying the info at the link below and also -- if you end up working with one of the private companies -- ask their opinion on what ticket/area/tour they would recommend.
