Her major refirb was in 2018 so I believe they might have been added then and not scheduled for 2020.. If you look at the photos in the New Jewel slide show on the NCL website - you can see these suites - they are the 6 large windows above the Haven in the center of the ship.

You are right....

We were on the Jewel on the first sail after drydock in November 2018 from Singapore.

We could see the workers up at these windows working away while we were in the pool area, it's nice to see what they were doing up there, I'm surprised it can take until 2020 to open them.

We had towel animals every night ... and no problems with anything in August trip. Everything in Fridge was from NCL ... Didn't notice what brand of water, although we were left new bottles every day and had no problems with air, doors, light switches or anything in 15500. Liked it so much we have reserved it again for two future cruises!

Great video!  We just booked on the Jewel 14 day from Honolulu to Papeete sailing April 3rd.  We are in DOS cabin 15000.  I could not discern any difference between 1500 and 15500 but the deck map makes 15500 look like longer (versus wider) entry hall?  Any thoughts on this?

Also, it sounds like you had a great experience - enough to book it again twice - and it sounds like you are a super experienced crosier - this is just our second cruise (first one on Norwegian! we sailed Celebrity before and stayed int he Royal Suite which we liked alot).  Is there anything you wish you knew about the cabin/ship before you sailed that you didn't know?  Anything you learned onboard that you think is important to share?   Anything us cruise newbies should know?  :)  Again, thanks for the incredibly helpful video!!  We have watched it like 5 times already just getting more excited about the room every time!

Thanks!

We loved the cabin and took a video to help others in case anyone is interested.

Jewel Cabin 15500 Deluxe Owner's Suite

Wow, very nice.  It looks like something on a brand new ship.  This would be worth every cent in Alaska.  You never need to leave your cabin all week.

The two DOS 15000 & 15500 are virtually the same in floor plan space (mirror image) !

The furniture and décor however maybe is different.

Disregard that botched bad deck plan - the cabin floor plan is NOT "Y" shape.

After ascending the stairs (Yes the elevator only goes to 14 and you have to climb 18 stairs to deck 15)

you will be in a large wide foyer with a service storage closet and emergency access to the GV 2nd deck

port side.

Going forward the entry doors to both DOS open outward into the foyer.

Viewing the first Video the photo taker is on deck 14 and climbing the stairs to this big foyer.

Both videos of 15500 and are spot on accurate.

Something we wish we'd known if you're in the Haven you can eat lunch & breakfast in Moderno OR the courtyard. There were days we enjoyed the courtyard, it was quiet and the perfect spot.

On the first day even if the rooms aren't ready you can go up and drop off your carry-on luggage. Then find a spot on the observation lounge in courtyard and relax with a drink. If you don't want to use the bottles of alcohol that come with the room because you have the drink package, request bubble wrap and they'll wrap them for you. Request binoculars, great for spotting from your balcony.

Meet the concierge in Moderno on days when in port and disembarking-it makes getting off the ship smoother. Instead of walking all the way to a bar for a drink, during normal hours in the courtyard, there's a waiter. He also checks the observation area and brings drinks. There's a sauna in the courtyard tucked behind the hot tub area that I didn't discover until the 4th day. Pack less and send out your laundry-leaves more room for souvenirs.

The hot tub can be adjusted, just tell your butler and they'll adjust it for you. There's a DVD player in your room and they give you a movie list to choose from but movies also come on at scheduled times. The butler will arrange for you to have any mixers in the fridge before you arrive. We requested pub mix and fresh cookies each evening for the kids. If you're too tired to go out for dinner, you can order anything, even use your specialty dining and have it delivered to the room. On nights when you are full but desert sounds good, ask the restaurant to have the butler bring it to the room later. You can write anything on the "breakfast room service menu" and aren't limited to what's on it. So if there's something on the restaurant menu you'd like, just write it in.

Because it's a long walk up the stairs for the staff, if your fridge is crowded request an ice chest for extra ice.

I'm sure there's more but hopefully this helps. We are on that same itinerary the week after you. Let us know any tips on excursions, etc.

Thank you so much!  Great to know about wrapping the alcohol/wine - we are not big boozers and I can't imagine we would get through 3 bottles of anything in 2 weeks!  I will definitely post any tips or important FYIs right after our cruise!  Can't wait!!

If you have the alcohol package you don't even need the liquor. Our butler (absolutely wonderful service from both butler and steward - hope you get the same ones!) bubble wrapped the liquor for us and everything. The wine we gave to other folks on the ship. Kristin's points above and video are perfect. You will love the cabin and the cruise. Enjoy!!

We forgot to mention, behind the sauna around a corner there is a large steam room. You regulate the heat yourself with a control outside the door. Be careful where you sit the first time because you don't want to be exactly where the steam comes out from under the seats - it will burn your ankles. Fortunately, not severely, but just the same, why get a "hot steamy surprise!" We found that we spent a lot of time in the courtyard because of the drinks, meals delivered to us there, hot tubs, saunas, steam rooms and showers.

We put in a bid for an upgrade to the Garden Villa. We bid low because we actually are happy with the current cabin based on K’s great helpful video - so if we get the upgrade great, if not, also great. Looks like both of the garden villas are still available on our sailing which appears to not be selling well. Now, with everyone scared about the Coronavirus, I imagine it will only get worse!

Has NCL communicated with you on the cancellation? We know nothing yet although we completely anticipate either them cancelling on us or us needing to cancel on them. Very disappointed but since we both are in a high risk category for this damnable virus we currently see no choice if there is no miracle ... although when it is all straight again we want to rebook as soon as we can. Same cabin, of course. We were SO HAPPY with the DOS! Best Wishes for Good Luck for you!! Looking forward to hearing what offers NCL gives you ...

Ugh!!! Praying for the wonderful crew that we loved so much ... The Jewel is now stranded ... https://kitchener.ctvnews.ca/norwegian-jewel-passengers-stranded-as-ship-turned-away-at-ports-1.4854544

There is a plan in place and they are not stranded, at least not at the moment.  According to passengers on the cruise, they are refueling this afternoon in Pago Pago, then will head to Honolulu to disembark.

prior to this cabin being here, was this a bar?

I believe it was a/the Concierge Lounge for the Haven guests.

It was not set up to be a bar as such

Only bad feature was the 18 steps (stairs) to get there.

No elevator service to this deck (15)

I am looking thru my files to find pix or video of the original layout.

I recall seeing a buffet set-up and a wet bar with tables next to

the windows looking down on the pool deck 3 decks below.

XXX

ok Found it YouTube video at the 2:40 mark you ascend the stairs

You will love it. Best Cabin we ever had ... and a great steward and butler ... of course they are now furloughed but we have kept in touch as faceook friends. Hope you get them as well but entire crew was wonderul. And you have not only your own hottub, but also two more one floor down in the Haven area along with a steam room and kids pool. You can order breakfast and lunch while in the sitting area by the pool as well ... It's a great experience and it was never crowded. ENJOY!!!!!!
