Thinking about trying Celebrity

My wife and I are in our late 60’s and have cruised 23 times, 12 with Princess, 7 with Royal Caribbean.  In checking prices it appears Celebrity is more expensive than Princess which is already sort of expensive.  What amenities does Celebrity offer that would justify the higher price?  Also which class of ship is the most desirable?  Any thoughts are greatly appreciated.

Well, now you have gone and done it, opened a can of worms... LOL

Personally we enjoy sailing X due to the size of the vessels and especially the staff and fellow passengers.

If price is the objective, X may not be your line, especially The Edge. Elsewhere in this forum there are treasure troves of comments concerning the new class of ship.

There are deals to be had through various outlets, to be sure, so on its' face, X may be more expensive.

Class of ship is a matter of personal preference just like food and cocktails or not.

Are you looking at suites, verandahs, or insides?

If you are looking for a place just to hang your bathing suits, then Carnival, Royal and the like may be what you are looking for in terms of pricing.

There are others who can provide more input were there more information provided about what you are comparing to, itineraries and minimal expectations of your cruise line.

bon voyage

Thanks for the response.  Due to our 7 cruises on RCCL we do have a status on Celebrity, not sure what it is.  We try to book Veranda cabins on all cruises, enjoy having outdoor space.  From my initial post you can see we book Princess most often, so we are considering a S class ship for January.  We enjoy good food and entertainment, also if sea days we like a good shady spot to relax during the day.

S class would likely be a good choice and fit. We are also in our 60's and love these ships. Lots of shaded area near the pool. Pricing will be more competitive for the S class vs new Edge class. Will also depend where and when you wish to sail. You would likely be Select or perhaps Elite (Diamond on RCCL).

I have to assume that when you are comparing cruise prices, you are doing it "apples to apples".  Celebrity has several categories of verandahs, with Concierge and Aqua classes being more expensive (although on S Class ships, all verandahs are identical in size). Also, if you are comparing thru a large TA, grats & drinks are often included (quite a deal compared to Princess).

A lot depends on ship and itinerary. If you want a week long Caribbean cruise on Equinox, pricing is very competitive compared to other mainstream cruise lines. I chose Celebrity Equinox for March 23 and it was a bargain even compared to Carnival.

If you want to sail on Edge, the newest ship, it’s a lot more.

I dont know about other itineraries or exotic destinations.

We have found we get the most bang for your buck with Celebrity transoceanic cruises if you have two weeks to spare in either the spring or fall. We also find we usually get a better deal if we book as soon as a cruise we like is posted.

We are in our mid 60s as well and have come back to X after trying some other lines. One of the big positives for us are the evening shows in the main theater as well as a variety of things to do, to include going to at least 2 lectures and up to 4 trivia games, on sea days! Their shows are simply great and there are always plenty of seats to choose from.

Hi Dennis

Obviously, prices and perks offers change frequently; but here are three currently priced cruises that show that Celebrity is often quite competitive with Princess:

7-night Eastern Caribbean with refundable deposit

2-16-20 Regal Princess – DA Balcony Cabin

$1464 with $150 OBC and one specialty restaurant dinner

2-15-20 Celebrity Equinox – 1A Balcony Cabin

$1819 with two perks: e.g. $150 OBC and Classic Beverage Package

Celebrity fare is $355 pp more than Princess; but the purchase price of the Classic Beverage Package is $487.34 pp versus a Princess specialty dinner at up to $29 pp

7-night Southbound Alaska with refundable deposit

7-25-20 Grand Princess – BA Balcony Cabin

$2524 with no perks

7-24-20 Celebrity Millennium – 2B Balcony Cabin

$2199 with two perks: e.g. $150 OBC and Classic Beverage Package

14-night Baltic with refundable deposit

7-11-20 Crown Princess – BA Balcony Cabin

$4249 with no perks

7-18-20 Celebrity Silhouette – 1A Balcony Cabin

$3969 with two perks: e.g. $150 OBC and Classic Beverage Package

Suggest you give Celebrity a try!
