There will be several ships in port when we disembark.  We plan to walk off as early as possible and get a cab to FLL.  Any other advice re pre booking a ride service or ways to get out efficiently, recognizing the airport will also be a zoo.

This is not an issue. I think the record is 50,000 plus people, getting off and on. The port is well organized, and moves pretty well. Walking off and grabbing a cab is about as easy as it can be. No need for other arrangements.

Cruiser Bruce is right - that isn't a particularly large number.  According to www.porteverglades.net, a world record of 55,885 passengers (embarking and disembarking) at Port Everglades was set on Sunday March 13, 2016. There were eight cruise ships docked that day.
