les37b Posted April 22, 2019 #51 Share Posted April 22, 2019 Nice photos Silver Spectre. Internet isn't much better on the Wind. Funnily I notice on the interactive TV yesterday morning at about 7am a message in the corner saying "limited connectivity due to usage" or words to that effect. I doubt too many were online at that time. Fortunately most of the ports on this voyage I get free roaming access, which should mean on those days I'll have good internet. We'll see. We arrive in Road Town today after 2 full sea days. I remember well when they were testing new providers. Almost exactly 2 years ago on a similar itinerary on the Wind, the internet was fantastic... I even managed to stream video (albeit briefly). It only happened on my voyage. I think it was Spins on the next (TA) who then had terrible access which was quite sad as my comments probably built up expectations that weren't delivered. Anyway... It is what it is. Hopefully it'll improve one day!

Hope all is going well and you are enjoying 738. We jointly won Trivia today for the second day out of 3, hope yours continues to be good.
Rare drron29 Posted April 22, 2019 #53 Share Posted April 22, 2019 The internet on the Muse was terrible on the Muse in February though.

Rare Silver Spectre Posted April 24, 2019 Author #56 Share Posted April 24, 2019 Internet hiccup early this morning, but normal (slow) service has been resumed now. 29c and mainly clear skies, so hotting up as we approach the equator.

Rare Silver Spectre Posted April 25, 2019 Author #61 Share Posted April 25, 2019 Just had an announcement from Fernando that we have picked up a Mayday call and are heading to see if we can help. Hope it’s not pirates!
Rare Silver Spectre Posted April 25, 2019 Author #62 Share Posted April 25, 2019 The Mayday was in Portuguese and came from a vessel about 50 - 60 nautical miles north east of Sao Tome, at 10:00am we were told we would be at the scene of the incident at about 1:00 pm. The Portuguese warship Zaire is also heading there, but we don’t know how far away. We await further news.

Rare Silver Spectre Posted April 25, 2019 Author #65 Share Posted April 25, 2019 We are now expecting to reach the area where the local Sao Tome - Principe ferry capsized at about 13:30. There were 55 people onboard.

Stumblefoot Posted April 25, 2019 #67 Share Posted April 25, 2019 Holy smokes Mr. Silver! I hope the Whisper is able to save the passengers. I know the crew trains for so many different scenarios, but this is super scary.
Rare mysty Posted April 25, 2019 #68 Share Posted April 25, 2019 We are now sailing in a search grid pattern under the direction of the Portuguese Navy. Apparently some people have been rescued and some bodies recovered.

Stumblefoot Posted April 25, 2019 #70 Share Posted April 25, 2019 Thx Mysty. What a terribly sad, sad day. So very happy that Silver Whisper was relatively nearby and able to lend assistance.
Rare Silver Spectre Posted April 25, 2019 Author #71 Share Posted April 25, 2019 Sunset today is at 5:35, so we only have just over 1/2 hours daylight left, and then the chances of finding anyone reduce significantly. Hoping to hear some more news soon.
Rare Silver Spectre Posted April 25, 2019 Author #72 Share Posted April 25, 2019 We have just been released from the search pattern by the Portuguese Navy and are now heading to Takoradi, Ghana on Saturday. Stumblefoot Posted April 25, 2019 #74 Share Posted April 25, 2019 Echo WesW's sentiments to you both Mr. Silver and Mysty. Sad to read that four people have died and four are still missing. Incredibly sad.
Rare Silver Spectre Posted April 26, 2019 Author #75 Share Posted April 26, 2019 (edited) Current position: 2 56 0 N 3 19 20 E just sailing into the Gulf of Guinea and the outside temperature 33.6c There was an early show last night by the Voices, ‘Voce dell Operetta’, supposedly BRAND NEW! Based on the extremely full main bar it was not very popular. There was also ‘Name that Tune’ at 9:45. 3 people showed up, so points for all and the girls and the Polish Orchestra had an early night. The ship was pretty dead by 10:30. Off the daytime activities Mark Elovitz’s series of lectures are proving very popular.
