postmanrings Posted June 16, 2019 #1 Share Posted June 16, 2019 I have always known fall is hurricane season, but only remember hearing about it down south and along southern east coast. Is it a good bet to go ahead and plan a Canadian cruise those months? THanks!
Matt_75 Posted June 16, 2019 #2 Share Posted June 16, 2019 Living in Halifax, almost would be certainly be one of your ports, there is a risk of hurricane from June to November. We don't get them as frequently as the Caribbean or southern states but it can happen. If there was a hurricane that could impact your cruise you would most likely end up with a modified itinerary. Host Carolyn Posted June 17, 2019 #3 Share Posted June 17, 2019 Some hurricanes "blow themselves out" further up the North American coast or out to sea in the northern Atlantic. We've had rough seas due to this twice but no altered ports; however just as in Caribbean, it can happen. If you don't want to risk that it's marginally "safer" too book in July or early to mid August although your choices will be more limited and you will lose all chances of seeing fall color. I wouldn't worry about it though
mets123 Posted June 22, 2019 #4 Share Posted June 22, 2019 You can't predict the weather. I've done at least ten New England/Canada cruises in the past 12 years between August and October out of New York/New Jersey and Never had to deal with hurricanes. They do happen, but the cruise lines will make changes to avoid them.
princeton123211 Posted June 22, 2019 #5 Share Posted June 22, 2019 You have a better chance of hitting them on a trip to Bermuda than you do to NE/Canada. In fact, most cruise lines in Sept/Oct use NE/Canada itineraries as a backup if they need to cancel a run to Bermuda. You'll be fine.
