We are about to set sail next week on the Rhine river cruise from Basel to Amsterdam.

Would you recommend Starboard or Port side cabin?

Cheers!

It's a crap shoot. Usually not a lot of day sailing for scenery so more issue when docked. If you are on lower deck and next to pier you may see wall. if you are double or even triple docked you will see into neighbour's cabin. Enjoy your cruise.

Thanx for your prompt reply @sharkster77. We booked/paid (Starboard cabin) just 10 days back. When checking online on Sunday, we found cabins open on Port side. Hence the question.

Cheers!

4 cabins open this late?  What line?

To answer your question, it doesn't matter.  IIRC, the only scenic cruising you do is in the castle section, and you'll want to be in a public area so you can see both sides of the river bank.

Rumy, the only time you really spend in your cabin is when sleeping or getting ready for meals or  going out on tour.  We are pretty private people, and still found that we could sit in the lounge and be "on our own" when we wished.  If there is any scenery to see, you want to be out where you can see out of both sides of the ship, not just what you see through your cabin window.

A hint we found, when we were in the cabin, we usually had the TV on for the "deck cam" to make sure we weren't missing much.

Enjoy your cruise, hope you have great weather and it cools down enough for you to enjoy touring around the towns.  We had great guides, and I am glad we took every tour we could, because we really enjoyed seeing all that we could......even the bus rides to off river tours, as we saw the countryside.  We even took the train back to our start city along the river to see more!

@DaisiAppreciate your prompt reply. Thank you for your hints and suggestions.

We have planned the rest for the pre and post on our own, instead of through the cruise line so we can explore what we want.

Cheers!
