Jenner9 Posted August 18, 2019 #1 Share Posted August 18, 2019 We are flying into Fort Myers but sailing out of Miami. We plan to rent a car. Which car rental companies do not charge a one way rental fee? Dollar's charge was $145 just for the one way fee!
rbell Posted August 18, 2019 #2 Share Posted August 18, 2019 they all charge something, but Budget is the cheapest.
JohninDC Posted August 18, 2019 #3 Share Posted August 18, 2019 Most rentals within FL do not charge a one way fee, but you may not qualify for the cheapest rate. Best bet is to go to your favorite travel web site and plug your dates in to compare multiple agencies. If it is close, National, Alamo, Thrifty and Enterprise offer free shuttles between their MIA airport location and the port.

I can't say anything about Ft Meyers to Miami but we booked our one way rental from Port Canaveral to Tampa Airport with Alamo (through Costco) and were not charged a drop off fee. thinfool Posted August 19, 2019 #5 Share Posted August 19, 2019 Budget is our company of choice. Rarely see dropoff charges. Lots of discount codes on http://www.mousesavers.com .
Davey Wavey Posted August 22, 2019 #6 Share Posted August 22, 2019 To add to what JohninDC said, if you find a good rate but a one-way fee makes it bad, try going through your airline's car rental service or other travel agency (Costco, Walmart, your credit card, booking dot com, amex travel, etc.) as they SOMETIMES waive one-way fees even when the rental company itself doesn't AND have the same or lower rates. CruiserBruce Posted August 22, 2019 #7 Share Posted August 22, 2019 Have booked one ways in Florida with Hertz and Avis, through Costco and USAA. Neither had drop off charges.
Capt_BJ Posted August 22, 2019 #8 Share Posted August 22, 2019 your 'problem' is probably Ft Meyers being in the equation USUALLY there is no one way fee when going 'tween two major destinations in FL: Miami, Orlando, Cape/Port Canaveral/Cocoa Beach, Tampa ..... start playing with smaller sites and the story changes. With the major hubs there is plenty of one way traffic EACH WAY which keeps cars at both locations. With a minor player, they worry that they will not get a car 'back' and may need to deadhead a car to replace . ..
