Billthekid Posted September 1, 2019 #1 Share Posted September 1, 2019 On our last cruise we noticed the Black Jack tables require a minimum $6 bet which is strange in the first place. The payout on getting a black jack is a poor 6-5 instead of 3-2. So I was thinking if I bet $6 and hit a black jack the pay out should be $13.20. Does the casino have $0.20 chips or do they pay in coins, or do they round down or (heaven forbid) round up? Does anyone know to satisfy my curiosity so I will be able to sleep tonight? dockman Posted September 1, 2019 #2 Share Posted September 1, 2019 Good question. I never found out as i refuse to play any 6/5 blackjack payout which is a HORRIBLE gouge. They did have 3/2 payout but only on $20 tables if i remember correctly.

They round down.. they set the minimum at $6 to encourage a $5 bet on your hand with a $1 bet on the lucky ladies. You need to bet $10 if you want true 6/5 odds. They usually have a $25 min table that pays 3/2. They are starting to add a third 00 place on roulette. It is usually a HAL logo so it is a little deceptive. You are seeing more 6/5 in Vegas as well. They will keep making the game worse till people stop playing. I quit playing HAL blackjack. Tables are still busy with others. DaveOKC Posted September 2, 2019 #4 Share Posted September 2, 2019 On some ships there are machines that offer BJ. I have found these to offer better odds than the tables, but of course not as much fun to play (IMO). Need to read the rules carefully before you begin to play. wyobean Posted September 2, 2019 #5 Share Posted September 2, 2019 Those odds are just another way to gouge the customer. It irritates me so I rarely play. I live close to Deadwood, SD and can play normal odds for $5.00 anytime. The sad thing is that I like to play on our longer cruises but I usually stick to the slots. If a casino offers poor odds on games where you can see the odds difference (like BJ and video poker), what do you think they are doing on the machines where you cannot see the odds - like slots? Billthekid Posted September 2, 2019 Author #7 Share Posted September 2, 2019 We live in Vegas and quit playing the tables years ago because the odds on BJ changed and minimums increased too much which busted our budget. We no longer visit downtown or the strip because the casinos charge for parking, which is unheard of in Vegas. Pay to play, out of the question. We only play the slots and consider our playing as "entertainment" expense. Our casinos are supervised and regulated. The ship casinos have no supervision what so ever. We would visit from Oklahoma 4-6 times a year (remember, we had to pay for airfare). Then the big corporations moved in and killed the odds. First it was single deck BJ to go, then no more 1.5 times on BJ, then video poker dropped from 9/6 "full pay", then food prices increased alot (and fewer coupons/deals), then resort fees being charged and now parking fees. They really do not want the old style true gambler, but rather now focus on the younger party crowd. I used to be able to play for most of the day with minimal losses and even some wins (at one time I even was a small time card counter), but now-a-days it is crazy expensive, so I might as well just stay home and gamble in one of our many local casinos. Too bad, I really miss the "good old days".
