Carnival Free Port Question

Lot's of discussion regarding specific Carnival cruises that are suppose to stop in Freeport.

The cruises that were to stop there are still going to stop there to bring supplies to the storm damaged island.

Acknowledging this... and a number here on CC saying they will not miss this port... why would anyone want to stop there... ?

Before the storm, what did Freeport have to offer ?

Freeport has (or had) some good excursions, but there wasn’t much to do within walking distance of the port...very limited shopping and food/drinks.

The people on the Bahamas Celebration line seem to enjoy Freeport.

We haven't been there yet, but we're interested to see "Carnival's largest cruise port in the world" when it's done (projected to be finished late 2021). I know a lot of people complain about "cookie cutter" cruise ports and the Carnival-built port complexes in general, but if Freeport isn't well liked anyway, there's nothing to lose.

Last time we were there, we went to an the viva Wyndham for an all inclusive day.

Freeport had wonderful snorkeling excursions.

 

And wonderful people.

I've heard that folks enjoyed visiting Grand Lucayan Resort... I guess you could get a day pass ?

However, they are closed due to Dorian.  That side of the island fared the storm pretty well compared to other parts of the island.  Damage, Yes... but not the destruction the rest of the island endured.

We went to Freeport on the Pride in 2011.  The beach was not crowded.  I can't remember the name of this beach.  Maybe someone will recognize this beach. 😊

Found it on Google Maps...   The Ritz Beach Resort...

That dock is no longer there... just the pilings left.
