Doing the 28 day round trip out of LA to Hawaii and South Pacific islands.  I'm from the US.  Do we need any special shots or vaccines for Tahiti, Samoa, etc.?

Thanks

We didn't get any shots.

I'm a nurse and have ready access to a great travel medicine clinic in our hospital so we took advantage of that. Our infectious disease doc did his homework and recommended Hepatitis A & typhoid vaccines (at least a month before traveling).  We both work in healthcare, so we were current with our annual flu, Hepatitis B, & TdAP vaccines.  There is an outbreak of Dengue fever in the area - of which there is no preventative vaccine.  It is a mosquito-borne illness, so protect yourself from bites using a DEET based spray or lotion.  Here's more on that from the CDC:  https://wwwnc.cdc.gov/travel/notices/watch/dengue-asia

We received similar recommendations from our travel doctor for immunizations and mosquito repellant use.  However, we have stops in Vanuatu with one excursion involving a hike through the rain forest.  For that reason, he also added a recommendation for anti-malarial medication due to the risk of possible exposure on that island.  That is the only island on our itinerary where malaria is a risk (Tahiti, Bora Bora, American Samoa, Samoa, Fiji, Vanuatu, and New Caledonia).  We have since decided to forgo that particular shore excursion and the anti-malarial meds.
