Accessible stateroom questions

A family member has a disability that does not impact mobility so this person does not need a wheelchair or power scooter. However, the disability requires use of several medical devices in the room and a lot of boxes of medical supplies that must be delivered to the stateroom. For a prior cruise, the person paid for a sky suite to have the extra room for all the equipment and supplies. That worked out pretty well, but prices have gotten very expensive. We are wondering if an accessible veranda stateroom would be appropriate in this situation or if these rooms are really only for people with mobility needs. If there are documented medical equipment needs, would the person still be at risk of being bumped from an accessible room if someone with a wheelchair also needs it? Also, what is the bathroom like in an accessible stateroom?

Call Celebrity and talk to the Special Needs department... actually, call several times. See if the answers you get are the same. If so, then that's probably how it works. I would imagine ANY documented special need would qualify him for an accessible room.

call specials needs dept and discuss with them your issues- we always book a handicap room as we have a scooter  but with your issues I don't see a problem. they are always very helpful there

You might want to browse the Disabled Cruise Travel forum. That is where cruisers with physical limitations share their advice & experiences. Ask there for the information you seek from your fellow Cruise Critic members that have sailed in Celebrity's accessible veranda staterooms.

I sure hope they would bump a person with no mobility issue if another person comes up who requires the room for what it actually is: accessible! 

 

Storage can be found somewhere else. Accessibility, not so much...

Unfortunately most of the supplies would need to remain in the room along with the medical devices that require a certain set-up in the room. A "regular" stateroom would not be very "accessible" or safe for my family member due to the extra space needed in the stateroom and bathroom. Storing suitcases elsewhere would not be helpful in this situation.
