roger3858 Posted November 26, 2019 #1 Share Posted November 26, 2019 I enjoy wine when on holiday especially with a meal- I’ve been having a browse of the wine list. Sadly my wife isn’t a big drinker so I suspect much of what I’ll have will be by the glass. Any recommendations from experience of by the glass wines on the list? Any to definitely avoid? As a follow up I know bar set up in QG includes 2 bottles of wine or spirits- if you get wine and finish it does it get replenished? First Cunard crossing in TA and thoroughly excited! BigMac1953 Posted November 26, 2019 #2 Share Posted November 26, 2019 No need to buy wine by the glass. Your sommelier will simply seal your bottle if you have any left, and bring it back to your table when required. My wife and I often have two bottles on the go at any one time, plus my port that appears at the end of my dinner. Your wine in your room will be replenished if you are nice to your butler, providing you don't go mad!
Neuhoftraveler Posted November 27, 2019 #3 Share Posted November 27, 2019 Some think that "re-sealed" wine is not nearly as good as when the bottle was first opened, assuming we're talking about the next day or even later. If I were ordering wine by the glass, I'd ask to have it poured from a newly opened bottle.
BigMac1953 Posted November 28, 2019 #4 Share Posted November 28, 2019 Most red wines will improve when oxidised. However, I've never noticed any change in the white wines either after 24 hours.
exlondoner Posted November 28, 2019 #5 Share Posted November 28, 2019 Nor me, not even when it goes into a third day. Presumably it depends how it is kept.
Underwatr Posted November 28, 2019 #6 Share Posted November 28, 2019 This year I've had a few bottles of the Cunard label Cabernet and Merlot. They were fine the second day but I could taste some changes by the third.
lissie Posted November 28, 2019 #7 Share Posted November 28, 2019 Aren't most wines in a screw top on board? Its so rare to find a wine with a cork in it here that I no longer know where our corkscrew is. With a screw top I'd expect an opened bottle to last a week if stored at the right temp
Underwatr Posted November 29, 2019 #8 Share Posted November 29, 2019 There are wines with a screw top onboard but I don't believe it's near a majority. The better California and French wines generally have corks in my experience.

IB2 Posted December 5, 2019 #10 Share Posted December 5, 2019 The wine guy in the restaurant should offer you good recommendations. Just tell him or her your preference and rough budget.
2Oldpeopleinlove Posted December 5, 2019 #11 Share Posted December 5, 2019 You could always take your own little wine pump and stopper to keep the air out. Ours weighs a matter of a few ounces. No way a bottle will make it out of dinner alive, or we'd have the gadget packed.

But a proper champagne stopper (the kind that hooks under the lip of the bottle mouth, to prevent its being blown off)) is always good to have at hand.
