Rare ghstudio Posted December 12, 2019 #1 Share Posted December 12, 2019 We were on the Veendam a month or so ago and we were given a $150 coupon to use on our next HAL cruise...if booked with 30 days...and of course 1/2 a page of fine print. Just call HAL and we'll add it to your cruise. So I did....we booked another cruise on-board and I called to get the coupon added. The agent added it to the cruise booking (or at least she said she did) and she told me that I had to take the coupon with me on the next cruise and show it to the casino. To me, that sounds like ....hey, maybe you'll lose it before you use it. Do I really have to keep that piece of paper, remember to take it on the cruise to get the $150 in funny chips??? Seems to me that if you have the coupon which has your name on it and you ask them to put it on your booking....you shouldn't need the paper. Crusinsusan2 Posted December 12, 2019 #3 Share Posted December 12, 2019 Definitely take it with you. Can't remember a time when we did not have to produce it at the cage to claim it even though our reservation had it added.
leela8 Posted December 12, 2019 #4 Share Posted December 12, 2019 The reason is don't rely on Seattle to communicate with the on board casino, sometimes they can't get the spreadsheet emailed to them on time or you're not on the list that they sent in. If you have the flyer/paper is as good as a check or cash. Always keep any promo they give you as proof it will save you a lot of aggravation in the long run on your trip.
Longstraw Posted December 23, 2019 #5 Share Posted December 23, 2019 Agree 100% with the responses. I had a letter...no coupon... for substantial casino cash if booked within 30 days. I booked; my pcc noted the amount of the offer and the fact that I had booked within 30 days to the notes on my bookings. Unfortunately the time between the offer and the sailing was about ten months and I apparently put it somewhere "safe" so that I wouldn't lose it. A couple of weeks before sailing, I tore the house apart looking for it with no luck. I emailed the Ocean Players club who were totally unhelpful....they said they couldn't tell how much the offer was for so were unable to send me a replacement letter. A very helpful pcc sent me a screen print of her notes which I sent to the Ocean Players club but received no response. I took a copy of it onboard and the casino did give me some cash...less than a third of the original offer. The pcc made the suggestion which I am following from here on out to not only keep the letter/coupon but to take a picture of it with my cell phone. I think the onboard casino might have honored the original offer had I had that but without it I was really out of luck.
twodjs Posted December 23, 2019 #6 Share Posted December 23, 2019 Yes, take the paper. The cashier requires it for documentation. Just keep it in the file with your booking papers. You did keep those, right? What's one more piece of paper. It could be worth a lot more than $150...we hit a jackpot with our "free money" on our last cruise! Good luck! Great advice - often we cannot use the coupon (as we already had the cruise booked and within final payment), but when we do we have to show them the coupon and then they take an overnight to get it approved/verified by the home office. This last cruise we tried to get the credit on a cruise we already had booked and asked onboard about it - they were very helpful and checked with home office, but to no avail (oh well, it was worth a try). Djptcp Posted December 25, 2019 #8 Share Posted December 25, 2019 We do a lot of discounted casino cruises with cash or fun play and always, always bring the original mailings, etc. just in case.
DaveOKC Posted December 25, 2019 #9 Share Posted December 25, 2019 Funny deal with most recent (2 weeks ago) coupon. As soon as we returned, I called HAL PCC and tried to get it applied to April cruise (7 day Coastal) we had already booked, but they said "no" since existing reservation and I was not in a position to cancel/rebook as I would lose a great deal I had. My PCC did say she would kick it up the ladder and try just in case, but doubted (as I did) it would work. Then three days later we get a special casino email from HAL, with some great prices. Not for our cruise naturally, but it did show the cruise before ours on the same ship and going/coming from San Diego. So, I called and booked it and now was able to use the $150 free play coupon!! Then, two days later get a call from HAL PCC stating that she was able to get the coupon aplied to the first cruise we book! So, now I have the coupon applied to both sailings (of course I will not be able to use it twice as they take the coupon on the first Back to Back leg - even though we booked under separate reservations.
