Sounds way cool to me, but I can just see the look my husband would give me if I said "Come on through this hole in the fence that says warning private property in a foreign country. No really, I read about it online and it's fine!"

Wonder if they would meet you outside the terminal and escort you?

That resort in question looks like a resort I found online and matches and looks like the pictures that were posted.

Coud it be the same hotel?

If so, what a convenience for cruisers.

Does anyone have anymore info on this hotel???

Here is another link I found: click on cha chi resort. It has more pics

I agree ... we're going here for first time with our 2 daughters and the thought of sneaking thru hole in a fence in a place we've never been ... has anyone been here recently? Are they open to cruise guests coming for the day? Sounds a lot closer than getting in buses or taxis and spending too much time traveling when we have only about 7-8 hours in port.

Costa Maya Cruise Critics Club. Keep this info to ourselves folks.

I predict that by june the hole in that fence will be twice as big as it is now.

If it one thing I have learned from you guys in the last for or five years is that this is one adventuresome group of people that definitly nonconformist.

How dare they build a wall to try and keep us enclosed in their stupid little port.

They don't have any idea who they are dealing with!!!!!!!

The website indicates that the resort is 3km north of Mahajal...thought it was right beside the cruise dock? Also, what about getting a taxi to take you there? Just would be concerned about getting a way back. I would agree, I'm not that adventurous but if someone else did it and posted it here, I would be more apt to do it!

Hi Lisa,

Hey a fellow Miracle cruiser! ... we go in a month ... wanted to ask you how the tendering went in Belize? ... did you need tender tickets? ... how did they hand them out? We're tying to get off quickly for a private tour ... any tips?

Thx,

-Bob

We were there 2 weeks ago and had a private tour too. We went to the theater area at the earliest time possible. Go to the area where the ships tours go and tell them you have a private tour. We sat with all the cruise ship tours and once they were gone they said anyone on a private tour could go. We were off within 45 minutes.

Your confusion is due to the difference between "Mahujual" and "Cruise Dock" they are not the same thing. And yes there is about 2-3km separating them. You get off the ship, you walk down the pier(or take the complimentary shuttle). You look to your right and there will be the resort in question on this thread,("right beside the cruise dock"). You cannot get there from the pier. Straight ahead is the area built specifically for cruisers (shops, a pool, etc). Look to your left and 2-3 km down the coast will be the village of Mahujual (though you won't be able to see it too well from the pier.)

Go look at Zydeco's pictures again. You cannot get anymore clear than those.

I wonder if you could just get a cab and have them drop you at the entrance? Would be great to hear if anyone has gone to this place. It looks wonderful! I too, am not too keen on going through a fence that says "private property" etc.!

Boy this is interesting. I just sent an inquiry asking about the hole in the fence and "Private Property" sign to the website listed above in post no 52. I'll let you know if I get a response. A mexican prison vs the Century doesn't sound like a good trade!

Paul and Seabee: 4 of us are ready to stick our noses through the Forbidden Fence next week .... if we end up in a Mexican prison I'll post it here ... they'd have free net there, right? :-) And authentic food.

Can you skirt around the wall to Chi chi's(sp)????

Anyone done it?

Hey Paul, it's a deal, we'll be just like Butch and Sundance, no prison can hold me :-) I'm in a Net cafe in Cayman, Wendy off shopping, just back from snorkeling the Gamma wreck, good fun. 4 of us plan to try and check out the hole in the wall in CM, will let you know. Also taking some goodies to the kids at the school in CM. Coz tomorrow, planning to spend the afternoon at the Fiesta Americana resort, $39 p.p. all incl lunch and booze. They're gonna lose money on me, this is thirsty work. Then cave hiking Thurs in Belize. Great weather, good and warm but not a killer, calm seas.

Hi everyone-I have been following the posts on this thread and others related to Costa Maya and in particular Cha-Chi (the resort next to the peer), as we will be in port on 3/30/06 with the Carnival Liberty. This is the reply I received this afternoon from Cha-Chi in my response to questions about utilizing the facility for the day:

Hi,

Yes you can spend all day in our resort there is no problem our beach is

public and we will be glad to have you with us. There is no cost to come to the resort but we will thank you if you consume with us.

We have a restaurant that serves seafood and mexican food, we also have beer and tropical drinks. They are lounge chairs in the beach that are at your disposal. We have a basketball, soccer and volleyball court that you can use, we have balls that you can use. This is a perfect place if you want to go for snorkeling they are lots of fish and coral formations just a few meters away.To come to the resort there is no need to take a cab, you can walk to it. When you get to Costa Maya walk outside the peer plaza and take the first rigth. There will be a fence that has a sign of "Private Property" don't listen to that sign. There is a hole in the rigth part of the fence go through it. Continue walking forward and you will find a road to the rigth take it and you will be in the resort. It is a less than 10min. walk.

We hope to see you soon.

If you have any problem to get in please let us know.

Joaquín R.

We are planning to give it a go instead of paying the $180 for our family of five for a day at another resort up the road. At first, it was like "no way would I do this" as I cannot even run a yellow light in town, but then after receiving confirmation from the resort and realizing this is sorta the norm there, I feel a little more confident-wow, brazen even! I'll come back and try to give a report followingt the cruise (if I'm not incarcerated in a mexican jail ; )

Hi Everyone,

I´m in a net cafe on the dock in Costa Maya, I checked out Chac-Chi this morning. You walk out to the roundabout in front of the ship resort area where the shops are, the roundabout has yellow concrete walls, then walk past the roundabout about 4 minutes down the divided street to the first intersection, look to the right and you will see the local Commisary, white building with red lettering. Turn right here and walk down past the Commisary where you meet a wire gate with a hole at the right side. Pull the wire aside, best to get someone to hold it open while you go thru´, then hold for them. Then walk down the path past this gate for 1 minute, then the path goes to the right down to the resort. It took 8 minutes, 3 to the intersection, and 5 to the resort. There were all sorts of ppl using this route too. The resort has all kinds of ppl, locals, crew, some ship ppl, hopping music, lots of chairs, cheap drinks, loungers, nice beach.

GTR,

-Gringo Bob (hey amigo, still not in a Mex jail!)
