No, the Bahamian dollar is the same value as the US dollar and they are both totally interchangeable and the US dollar is widely accepted nearly everywhere. 1 hour ago, chanc said: Are there ATMs available at the cruise terminal ? I would try not to get any local currency as you don't need it to pay for things and there will be a fee to change what you don't use back into US dollars. Use the ships ATM to get US dollars unless you want Bahamian dollars as a souvenir.
chanc Posted January 30, 2020 Author #3 Share Posted January 30, 2020 Thanks for the info ! Good to know I don't need to exchange any currency for a short stay.
Rare mskaufman Posted January 31, 2020 #4 Share Posted January 31, 2020 I even paid for a small purchase in USD and received US coins as change.
Rare Tapi Posted January 31, 2020 #5 Share Posted January 31, 2020 As others have said, the US dollar is widely accepted and the exchange rate is pegged at 1 to 1 (1 US dollar for 1 Bahamian dollar). Do try to bring small denominations because sometimes they’ll give you change in Bahamian dollars even if you paid with USD.
Rare mskaufman Posted January 31, 2020 #6 Share Posted January 31, 2020 I was actually disappointed to get change in US coins. I usually like a few coins as an inexpensive souvenir.
