dns65 Posted March 12, 2020 #1 Share Posted March 12, 2020 This could be very disruptive to the Alaska cruise season as most ships that are doing return trips out of Seattle use Victoria as their "foreign" port callhttps://globalnews.ca/news/6667167/victoria-cruise-ship-ban-resolution-coronavirus/

If the City of Victoria doesn't want the passengers, maybe the passengers don't want Victoria. It does smack of Nimbyism. Especially since local ferries and puddle-hoppers pour people into Victoria all day every day. Also, there are other Canadian ports that cruise ships are able to dock at. And the good news is they are all a lot better than Ensenada!
bonvoyagie Posted March 13, 2020 #3 Share Posted March 13, 2020 Actually there are not that many Canadian ports that could fill in for Victoria - Vancouver and Prince Rupert are the only two that come to mind and Vancouver is also considering closing their port to cruise ships. Prince Rupert is not really cruise ship friendly.
crystalspin Posted March 13, 2020 #4 Share Posted March 13, 2020 My Princess RT/LA cruise July 2021 calls in Prince Rupert and not Victoria. So we'll see how friendly it is!
dns65 Posted March 13, 2020 Author #5 Share Posted March 13, 2020 (edited) Canada has banned large cruise ships until July 1st so this will disrupt the Alaska season as well as early season New England/Maritimes itinerarieshttps://vancouverisland.ctvnews.ca/canada-to-ban-all-cruise-ships-over-500-people-until-july-1.4851940 Edited March 13, 2020 by dns65
