Noreen411 Posted April 4, 2020 Author #130 Share Posted April 4, 2020 (edited) Friday 2/28/20 - St Lucia We skipped going to the gym this morning since we were planning to take a long walk to Vigie Beach. We decided against staying to swim but wanted to walk there and along the beach (we did this the last time we were in St Lucia and enjoyed it) We showered and got dressed. We went on the balcony and thought the sailboats on the smooth water looked so pretty we took a picture. We went to Luminae for breakfast. There was a waiter walking around with a tray of pastries. While they all looked good we both went with a mini donut hole filled with jelly. I had the Belgium waffle with strawberry preserves and crispy bacon. I forgot to ask for the preserves on the side (I like to dip my food and don’t like when it gets soggy) but I quickly moved the waffles off the preserves and it worked fine. Scott had a plain Belgium waffle with sausage and 2 eggs over hard. We enjoyed our breakfast. Edited April 4, 2020 by Noreen411
Noreen411 Posted April 4, 2020 Author #131 Share Posted April 4, 2020 (edited) Friday 2/28/20 - Continued We were docked at a different pier than usual so we ended up not walking to Vigie Beach. We took a cab and had him drop us by Rendezvous Resort, told him our plan of walking down the beach, and asked him to come back and pick us up at Vigie Beach. He dropped us off around 9:30 and he will come back for us at 12. He also gave us his card so we can call him if we are ready earlier. We took some nice pictures walking along the beach. When we got to Vigie Beach there was a man who wanted to sell various things he made. He was friendly and not pushy like vendors sometimes are. We bought a grasshopper made out of leaves. He didn’t have a set price for this and wanted to give it to us for a tip. Our cab driver showed up about 15 minutes early which worked out since we got to Vigie a little sooner than we expected. Driving back to the pier I liked this big statue of people rowing. We were dropped near the pier. Maybe a block or two away so we could wander through the straw market. As soon as we got out of the cab we were approached by many people to buy things. We walked through the straw market and looked around. When we mentioned we were looking for a Christmas ornament one vendor would call out to another vendor if they didn’t have what we wanted. We couldn’t find an ornament here; we were surprised since that’s usually a pretty easy thing to find. We walked back towards the pier. The shops in the pier area were nicer, cleaner, and we were able to look for what we wanted without being hounded. We found an ornament. Scott did not find a T shirt yet. We were back on the ship by 12:30 Edited April 4, 2020 by Noreen411
Noreen411 Posted April 4, 2020 Author #132 Share Posted April 4, 2020 (edited) Friday 2/28/20 - Continued We stopped at the cabin to drop off our stuff, wash our hands, and head up to the Porch for lunch. I started with the Romaine and Avocado salad. This was really good. I’m glad I got it. Scott had the Pil Pil shrimp to start. He enjoyed this. Scott had the club sandwich. I had the lobster roll. We skipped dessert despite normally liking something sweet after eating; we were stuffed. This was too much food and we didn’t even finish it. Everything we had was very good. Noreen411 Posted April 4, 2020 Author #133 Share Posted April 4, 2020 (edited) Friday 2/28/20 - Continued We saw that the NCL Epic was about to dock so we went up to the retreat sundeck to watch. We hung out up there for a little while. When we got back to our cabin we noticed that Alex had delivered a bowl of fruit so we snacked on some grapes while we watched TV. Our robes were now monogrammed and waiting in the cabin for us. Since we didn’t go to the gym this morning or do the long walk to Vigie beach we planned on, we went to the gym about 3:30. Noreen411 Posted April 4, 2020 Author #134 Share Posted April 4, 2020 (edited) Friday 2/28/20 - Continued When we got back from the gym we filled up a regular laundry bag to send out with t shirts, shorts, socks, and underwear. We also used a second laundry bag with some shirts that Scott needed pressed. We showered and dressed for the evening. We went to the Retreat Lounge. We both had a peach bourbon drink. This was really good. Mine was made wimpy (more peach and less bourbon) while Scott’s was made regular strength. We hung out at the bar in the lounge and ended up chatting with some other passengers that were also enjoying a pre-dinner cocktail. Noreen411 Posted April 4, 2020 Author #135 Share Posted April 4, 2020 (edited) Friday 2/28/20 - Continued On the way to dinner we stopped for the photographer who was taking pictures. We had dinner at Tuscan Grill. We ordered some different items than we had our last visit here. I had the Pizzette caprese flatbread to start. I was pleasantly surprised at how good this was. Scott had the crab cake. He enjoyed this. For my entree I had the Veal Marsala with a side 1/2 order of gnocchi. My food was good, not great, but good. I would choose something different if we come back to Tuscan. Scott had Lasagne, 1/2 order of chicken parmigiana (no pasta), and spinach that we shared. He said the chicken was very good and the lasagne was OK. The spinach was very good. For dessert I had the lemoncello cheesecake. This was good. Scott could not pass up the tiramisu which he loved our last visit. He also wanted to try the fig gelato so ordered both. The tiramisu was still his favorite. Noreen411 Posted April 4, 2020 Author #136 Share Posted April 4, 2020 (edited) Friday 2/28/20 We went to the theater for the show at 9pm - Sean O’Shea. The show was pretty good, we enjoyed it. We went to the casino after the show. Scott was doing well tonight. He was playing the Dancing Drums machine and hit something where he had to get a hand pay for just over $1700 (and a W2-G so we can pay taxes on it). We were in the casino until about 1am tonight. We walked around the ship a bit; I like wandering around the ship when most people are in bed and it’s empty. I thought this was a pretty view from one of the elevator banks. When we got back to the cabin we noticed that Alex left water bottles by our bedside tables. He must have noticed that we would usually bring a bottle into the bedroom each night. We normally threw the empty bottles out, but we must have forgotten one and he saw it. We were impressed that he noticed that. Rare calicakes Posted April 4, 2020 #137 Share Posted April 4, 2020 I'm looking at all your meals with Envy in my heart. After cooking 3 meals a day for the last 3 weeks, I'd love to be served. : ) Btw, do you bring your own laundry detergent( pods) or do you let the ship use theirs? There was a really long thread I read about how hard the ships laundry is on clothes.

He enjoys cooking but doesn’t normally have time. He’s gotten pretty creative. We just let the ship use their detergent; I didn’t even think of it. We didn’t send anything delicate to wash; just things like T shirts, shorts, socks, and underwear. Everything came back fine. mchell810 Posted April 4, 2020 #139 Share Posted April 4, 2020 (edited) Looks like Scott got lucky in the casino again! Good for him. We loved Tuscan on our Reflection cruise in 2018. It was good on Silhouette, but Murano ended up being our favorite restaurant this trip.

Noreen411 Posted April 5, 2020 Author #142 Share Posted April 5, 2020 (edited) Saturday 2/29/20 - Grenada We went to the gym about 6:45 this morning. Back in the cabin we used the jacuzzi, showered and got dressed. Our room service breakfast was delivered while we were at the gym. I had banana pancakes which I really liked. Scott had French toast. We got off the ship and stopped for the photographer to take our picture. We were excited to be exploring another island we have never been to before. We met Michael from JNJ tours for our private tour just before 9:30. It was just us in a small air conditioned SUV (exactly what we wanted). He told us about the town and the vegetation growing as we were driving. He would stop in case we wanted to take pictures of anything. Our first stop was a spice shop. The woman working there explained many of the spices and where they come from and what they are used for. It wasn’t a lecture and she included us as she explained things. She would have us touch the spices or she would shave parts of the spice onto our hands. I’m not explaining it well but I liked the way she showed it to us. It wasn’t too long and kept our interest. We bought some spices while we were there. Edited April 5, 2020 by Noreen411
Noreen411 Posted April 5, 2020 Author #143 Share Posted April 5, 2020 (edited) Saturday 2/29/20 - Continued Our next stop was at the Annandale Waterfall. When we parked the car, there was a bull at the side of the road. I am not used to just seeing a bull like that and asked if I can go take his picture. Michael assured us he was chained up and it’s OK to go ahead. I am walking towards the bull with my phone to take his picture calling “here bull, look at me.” Scott and Michael were also walking towards the bull. This bull did not like me and charged towards me (luckily he was chained) but I quickly ran away. The bull paid no attention to Scott or Michael, but he came right after me. After the excitement of almost being attacked by a bull, walking through the trail to the waterfall was very calm and peaceful. There was a man with a monkey who you could take pictures with but I’m leery of those Monkeys after reading about how the ones in St Kitts can give you diseases so we stayed away from the Monkey. Kind of ironic that I had no problem walking up to a bull to take his picture (until he charged) but I was afraid of the little monkey. There was a man who would make up cute songs about you as you were walking; this was actually really sweet and funny. When you get to the falls, there are men working there who climb the falls and jump in. We know this is how they make their living; the waterfall jumpers and singing guy were entertaining so we didn’t mind giving them money. Scott and I walked around the various trails some more just exploring what was there. Edited April 5, 2020 by Noreen411
Noreen411 Posted April 5, 2020 Author #144 Share Posted April 5, 2020 (edited) Saturday 2/29/20 - Continued As we were driving to our next stop, Michael pointed out the Rainbow Tree. You can see the various colors in the trunk of the tree. Next we stopped at the Grand Etang National Park and Forest Reserve. People were selling spice necklaces. We smelled them and they are very strong. I know people love these and I even brought a big ziplock bag (I read about doing that) in case we wanted to buy one. We really didn’t have any use for it so decided not to get one. We were happy with the bag of spices we bought from the spice shop. We hiked up a trail and then climbed steps to a lookout area. It is so beautiful here. Scott took a goofy looking picture of me after we climbed back down and were walking around. Noreen411 Posted April 5, 2020 Author #145 Share Posted April 5, 2020 (edited) Saturday 2/29/20 - Continued Our next stop was Fort Frederick. You can see the ship from the fort. We walked around the fort area, climbing different stairs and hills to look around. Below is Michael from JNJ tours in the picture with Scott. I didn’t have them pose together; I was just taking a picture and they both were in it and it came out pretty good. There was a raised platform that we climbed up to. When we came back down there was a lady with a dog so we went over to pet the dog. We walked around the fort area some more. Noreen411 Posted April 5, 2020 Author #146 Share Posted April 5, 2020 (edited) Saturday 2/29/20 - Continued When we were back in the car driving, Michael pointed out this really pretty beach, unfortunately I don’t remember the name, but I have a picture. Our next stop was Grand Anse beach. Michael would wait for us for as long as we wanted to spend at the beach. We walked along the beach with our feet in the water. It is beautiful and clear. If we come back to Grenada we would come spend a beach day here swimming and hanging out. We were ready to head back to the ship. We really enjoyed our tour with JNJ and having a private tour was the best way for us to see Grenada. We went at our own pace. When I originally emailed them they sent me a list of sites they usually go to. That worked for us. We paid for our tour and tipped Michael. Back near the pier we shopped for an ornament, a T shirt for Scott and a hat for Scott. With his new bald head he’s been even more conscious of putting sunscreen on his head as well as wearing a hat. Noreen411 Posted April 5, 2020 Author #147 Share Posted April 5, 2020 (edited) Saturday 2/29/20 - Continued After all that hiking/climbing/sightseeing we were hungry. It was about 1:45 when we got back on the ship so we went straight to Sushi on 5 for lunch (stopping in one of the public bathrooms to wash our hands). The public bathrooms on the ship are always clean with plenty of towels. There are cloth towels to dry your hands as well as paper towels if you have to open the door. There is usually an attendant there as well. We were looking through our purchases so I had Scott hold up his shirt and try on his new hat. He likes this same style of shirt and looks for it on all the islands. We shared our food and ordered two things we haven’t had before. Dynamite Shrimp. This was good but a little on the spicy side for me. Take that with a grain of salt as I’m wimpy when it comes to spice. Spicy Tuna. This was much too spicy for me to eat, but Scott enjoyed it. Now we’re onto food we’ve had before and liked. The Shrimp and Lobster Dumplings. Probably my favorite appetizer here. Scott liked the seaweed salad that came with it. We ordered the Shrimp Tempura Eel Roll, the Scallop over California Roll, and Eel nigiri. We enjoyed our food very much here. We tried the mango gelato from the gelato place but we didn’t like it. We saw someone in the elevator earlier eating it and talking about how much he loved it. Since it’s close to the sushi place Scott went over to get it and bring it back when we finished our sushi. I’m not sure what we were expecting but it wasn’t really the right consistency for gelato, it was more like sorbet but too icy. We went back to our cabin and put away our purchases. We tried to make a video of the cabin that I will try to post to YouTube. This took us a few tries and we still weren’t happy with the video yet. We went on the balcony for a while. I read my kindle while Scott worked on the computer. We also went in the jacuzzi on the balcony. We finished watching one of the movies we started. It sounds like we didn’t do much this afternoon after lunch but the time flew by and pretty soon we were sailing away from Grenada. Our laundry and pressing that we sent out was returned. The T shirts and shorts were hung on hangers in the closet. The pressed shirts were also hanging in the closet. What I thought was the cutest was how the socks and underwear came back in a little package. Edited April 5, 2020 by Noreen411
Noreen411 Posted April 5, 2020 Author #148 Share Posted April 5, 2020 (edited) Saturday 2/29/20 - Continued We showered and got dressed for the evening. We went to the Retreat Lounge and both had a peach bourbon drink (mine was the wimpy version). It’s nice that we keep running into many of the same people here enjoying their pre-dinner cocktail. We had dinner at Murano. The amuse bouche was something with goat cheese. Neither of us like goat cheese so we didn’t eat it. For our appetizers Scott had the pork belly and I had the mozzarella tomato salad. I tasted the pork belly; this was the best pork belly either of us have ever had. We’ve ordered it in a few places and are always disappointed, but not today. My salad was good; light and refreshing. But I was having appetizer envy over Scott’s pork belly. I’m definitely getting that next time we’re here. For our entrees I ordered the veal tenderloin and Scott ordered the duck breast. The waiter asked if we would like surf and turf tonight and he’ll bring us grilled lobster tails with our veal and duck. Of course we said yes and were impressed that he remembered that we liked the lobster just grilled and not covered in sauce. We both enjoyed our meals. For dessert we each ordered something new and shared. I ordered the Valrhona Cocoa Croquant. Scott ordered the Caffe Latte Bar Croquant. These were very rich. They were good but not our favorite dessert. We went late to the theater for the 9pm show Antonio Salci (a pianist). We probably arrived about 9:25 and were able to get seats to watch the rest of the show. The shows are usually about 45 minutes so we missed more than half of it but at least we got to see some of it. We talked about changing more of our dinners to Murano as we are really enjoying it there. We went to the casino until 1am. Rare Marvy Mare Posted April 6, 2020 #150 Share Posted April 6, 2020 Hi Noreen Enjoying your review. I remember reading one of yours a few years ago. Great food photos. I must disagree though. The crepe strawberry dessert that I had at Murano was one of the best desserts I’ve ever tasted.😄 We returned on March 13th from a cruise on the Reflection. The ship headed out again but was back in a few days. My husband has always said that he liked the Silhouette better than the Reflection. It was about 4 years ago that we sailed on the Silhouette (our first cruise ever) but it looks quite different from what I remember. Edgified? Looks like you had a great time.
