franktown Posted August 7, 2020 #2 Share Posted August 7, 2020 I agree with his assessment. Even if a vaccine is available in late 2020 or early 2021 that's 70 or 80% effective. It will take months to get people immunized and crew reassembled.
HappyInVan Posted August 8, 2020 #3 Share Posted August 8, 2020 Sounds realistic. Assuming that everything goes according to plan for the vaccine. That effectiveness is above 60%
skynight Posted August 8, 2020 #4 Share Posted August 8, 2020 Believe 2nd qtr 2021 is not realistic for a return in earnest. While there are many logistic problems to a restart, the main problem is the virus. Effective vaccine(s), mass worldwide inoculations, heard immunity, effective widely available treatments, are just a few of the complicated problems cruise lines face. There is also the issue of on board enjoyment. Will any of this be there before the pandemic is resolved? In my opinion I don't see being close to pre-pandemic normal until 2022 or maybe even 2023. I think it's really optimistic to believe an earnest return will occur in the 2nd qtr. 2021. Strong bookings? I think many are indeed making hopeful bookings, and are ready to cancel or postpone when final payment is due.
