Rare Kristelle Posted Saturday at 09:19 AM #16886 Share Posted Saturday at 09:19 AM OK so time for a clue - or perhaps to make sense of my last clue "used to be a town" the nearest town once had a population of 3000 - now 96 and is privately owned. Or clue of the mountain ranges - something to cry about.
Rare Mareblu Posted Monday at 12:30 AM #16887 Share Posted Monday at 12:30 AM Is it possibly Sheffield, near Cradle Mountain?
Rare Kristelle Posted Monday at 03:13 AM #16888 Share Posted Monday at 03:13 AM No, not there. Mountain range and electorate have same name. Not really something to cry about - more something to cry with. Town had 3000 population at its peak, now 96 and in effect privately owned. Will take either town or mountain range/ electorate

Poatina once a thriving hydro electric town, population 3000 - in 1995 most of the town was bought by Fusion Australia, a National Christian youth and community organisation devoted to helping homeless and unemployed youth. Population now 96 and the mountains are the Western Tiers mountain range sorry, didn't think it would be so hard - if I get another turn I will post photo of Sydney Opera House 🤣

Ex residents have a FB page and reading through it I saw a number of families also had lived at Poatina. As each part of the hydro scheme was completed, the construction workers and their families moved on to the next site where another village was constructed.
