Does anyone have any experience from cruising to this destination.  I noticed that several ATW cruises overnight in Myanmar and given the ongoing unrest there,  how safe and what could you recommend about the destination?

10 or so years ago during the last military coup, the US Government put Treasury restrictions on Myanmar.  That forced cancellation of the stops on Oceania and other cruise lines with US ties.

It is not about safety is is a more political issue with the country and its history.

Now the good news.   Recommend the Bagan overland with Oceania.   Was well planned.  Airlines in Myanmar are never on time and cancel frequently.  We recommend O land program for that reason.   There are several companies that do the same and will save you several hundred $$ per person but again you have a safety factor in case things go wrong with flights or the port stop being cancelled.

This was one of our favorite stops in all of our years of cruising.  Reserve one evening to do the temple at Yangon.

The people of Myanmar are amazing!!image.jpeg.0bdb46ec2daa5720006fd5439c78764b.jpeg

I believe many/ most lines cancelled stops, a few years back, in the Seychells (sp) in the Indian Ocean because of political unrest. Probably do the same in Myanmar if things don’t calm down quickly.

We did this same overnight in Bagan on the Natica in 2018. One of the best overnights it was fantastic. We where due to dock at 8 am but tide was low had to dock at 5 pm. Could not tour Yangon which was unfortunate cause we had to be up at 2 am for the flight to Bagan.
