Not everyone knows that they can upgrade or want to take the time & effort to check, so they just do the bid. Bids are done by a third-party, upgrades are done by NCL. How/when NCL decides to adjust prices is anybody's guess and can be done spontaneously, and changed back again just as quickly. How the third party does bids is anybody's guess but they wouldn't have the flexibility, once bids are sent out.

This happened to me when we booked our December cruise on the Breakaway. While me and my TA were booking the cruise, it tried to kick him out and he noticed the price went up almost $500. He was able to get me the lower rate by calling NCL and explaining the situation. 2 days later the price was back down to where it was before. It was like it knew we were trying to book it. Once when I noticed that an aft studio was available on my cruise (for less than my existing reservation), I did a mock booking in order to grab the cabin - then called my TA and got the upgrade. I don't know if having that mock booking at the current price would have made a difference if the price had changed, but under normal circumstances it will hold your reservation (and perks) for a couple of days, no payment required. In this particular case it held the specific cabin.

My biggest problem is I have $600 OBC and I know if I do a normal upgrade through Tim I will only get the current offers, if I bid the minimum and get advantage upgrade I keep all my current perks? If you upgrade after final payment, you keep whatever perks you had when you booked - the only time you might lose something is if you actually rebook prior to final payment. But you said you were 59 days out, so you should be good. Also, everything I've said is what is known to apply to USA - I know that there are some differences in UK and other places but your TA should know the rules that would apply to your booking.
