Rare Hlitner Posted October 8, 2021 #26 Share Posted October 8, 2021 So, we are taking about HAL where many passengers go to bed after dinner! For several years we took a popular Halloween Princess repositioning cruise between NYC and Ft Lauderdale. Unlike most HAL cruises, folks on Princess actually stayed awake after 9. There was a pretty large group that booked this cruise year after year and loved to celebrate Halloween with costumes. Princess had a great Halloween party including a costume contest (held in the atrium) which attracted far more then 1000 passengers. It was a lot of fun. Will HAL do the same? I doubt it. HAL might respond by offering a BBC documentary in the main show room...perhaps on the history of Halloween. I do like HAL but when we go on the that line we expect to spend a lot of quiet time reading our Kindle's So what would we expect on the OP's cruise? Perhaps HAL would actually have some Halloween decorations and even a pumpkin (Princess actually had a huge hand carved pumpkin display). But if HAL suggests masks it would likely be N95 masks. We once knew a HAL cruise director that had some good ideas and was fun. He was quickly relieved of his CD job. Hank
Chickadee910 Posted October 8, 2021 Author #27 Share Posted October 8, 2021 Ouch. Not being a party person, I just wondered about what might be. I’ll be fine if the crew just enjoy themselves. We will be in Cartagena for the day so will probably have an early evening anyway.
tennisbeforewine Posted October 8, 2021 #28 Share Posted October 8, 2021 We were on the transatlantic Koningsdam in 2016 and there was a costume contest in BB King's. It was great fun. The winners were two Dutch guys whose suits we couldn't understand until we realized one was covered with tulips and the other with small American flags. They were . . . ta da . . . Holland America! Loved it!

That's the Halloween that I remember. There was a late night party in the Crow's Nest as well.
Winters in NZ Posted October 8, 2021 #32 Share Posted October 8, 2021 The Norwegian Dawn sailed from Quebec City, heading for Tampa, one week before the devastation of Hurricane Sandy on NYC and New Jersey. Manhattan had originally been one of our ports, but as a result of the hurricane we docked in Boston on Halloween with an overnight. Many passengers had come prepared for the festivities, bringing costumes and decorating their doors too. Most of the crew were also in the spirit of October 31, with great artistry and design in their costumes, including the splendid festive efforts by the waiting staff in the MDR. We spent the evening by taking the subway into Cambridge admiring costumed trick or treaters as well as some beautiful residential Halloween decorations . A great Halloween for us back then ! Chickadee910 Posted December 1, 2021 Author #36 Share Posted December 1, 2021 Recently got off the Eurodam from the transatlantic from Spain. Took candy for Halloween for our cabin steward and the casino staff and they were very appreciative since with all the quarantines they have not had the opportunity to get treats. So on our next voyage on Valentine’s Day I plan on sharing more treats.
