Beginning Aug 12 - short cruise testing required - no exemptions

Royal’s FAQ updated, and beginning a week from today, no testing exemptions  on short 3 and 4 night cruises.
 

FOR SAILINGS 4 NIGHTS OR LESS 

All guests age 2 and older will need to take the pre-cruise test as outlined above. However, on these shorter sailings, guests who are fully vaccinated may choose to provide proof of vaccination in order to be exempt from this test. For short sailings departing on or after August 12, this exemption will not be granted, and vaccinated guests will be required to take this test.

Currently on Freedom and people are surprised to hear this. It applies to cruises next week.

Not till late next week on the Freedom.  I will get on the Freedom on Monday August 9th and will not need to have the test.  Those that get on Freedom on Friday August 13th will need the test.

This is all a reaction to the spikes caused by none vaccinated persons driving the cases higher, and even with some of the none FL cruises requiring everyone over 12 to have the vaccine they can't take a chance on the bad press over on ship positive test. 

Once the vaccination rates rise and the the positive tests move back down they will drop these requirements. They don't want this any more than we do. We are sailing a week from Sunday and are vaccinated and have been told we now need to bring a negative test. Inconvenient but not the end of the world and we are looking forward to getting back on a ship.

They test them onboard the day before the end of their first cruise. Now what I do not know is, what happens if they test positive.

Same as anyone testing positive, you get quarantined and escorted off the ship at the home port. You get a refund for the second cruise.
