turnip eater Posted September 22, 2021 #26 Share Posted September 22, 2021 I asked that, but was told ‘NO’ because they want to keep passengers from chances of being infected in hotels.
Kohima Posted September 22, 2021 #27 Share Posted September 22, 2021 Given that passengers aren’t allowed to travel on public transport, it’s hardly surprising that Saga doesn’t want hotels added into the mix. Cruising will only survive right now if the ships stay safe from Covid. Concerning the car journey to the departure port, I would say just sit back in the car and relax. It’s up to Saga to get you to the ship on time. The ship definitely won’t go without you!

There has to be a certain time when the ship will have to leave. Yes, it will wait for an hour or two, possibly, but 6 or 8 hours ? I doubt it. Mr&MrsHendricks Posted September 30, 2021 #30 Share Posted September 30, 2021 @Jammy Bun @NorbertsNiece Howdy. Just back from a very nice jolly on Discovery. First time with Saga, and will deffo go again!! Outward journey, a Friday Left TS14 at 0735. Driver called day before to confirm time. (He actually said 0745 but was early) 20 min break half way for a cuppa and a bacon bun. Arrived Southampton 1305hrs. 5.5 hrs inc 20 min break. From getting out of the car, testing etc, to stepping into our very nice cabin took 90 mins. Return journey. A Wednesday. Departed Southampton 1045hrs. M1 closures somewhere had a knock on effect with some heavy traffic on the A38 A 30 minute stop off for a hot chocolate Arrived back home 1645hrs. 6 hrs inc 30 break and some slow traffic. Certainly a doable transport option. Yeah, on the train you can take a picnic on the way down and a bottle of wine, but this was door to door. No additional parking charges, and then driving home from Darlo or Eaglescliffe. Couldn’t have got the train for cheaper that the excess we paid (beyond 250 miles) Private transfer at the moment too.
Rare Windsurfboy Posted October 1, 2021 #31 Share Posted October 1, 2021 Dear Mr&MrsHendrick So glad the travel worked out so well and you had a great holiday. What was it about Saga that would deffo go again. As a first timers on Saga I'm sure many people would love to hear what you thought of the experience, the food etc , and how you rate it versus other lines you've been on. CeaJay Posted October 3, 2021 #32 Share Posted October 3, 2021 Mr&MrsHendrick I agree with Windsurfboy it would be lovely to hear a bit more of what you thought about your cruise and any tips you might give a first time cruiser. We are booked for the Caribbean cruise in January and are first timers too.
Mr&MrsHendricks Posted October 6, 2021 #33 Share Posted October 6, 2021 @Windsurfboy @CeaJay Folk, In no particular order!! - lovely contemporary feel and super decor - excellent speciality restaurants at no cover charge - great main dining room. - good sized cabin. We were lowest grade and was spot on. E048 - good sized bathroom with glass shower screen and shower on flexi hose. Also adjustable height. - a beautifully raked stern, with lots of outdoor seating space. Will be FAB in sunny weather in nice climes. - lots of open deck space. - lots of cosy corners inside. - lovey airy lounge at front of ship - great relaxed feel! - plenty going on! Pleasant active ship! - transfers included (small additional rate beyond 250 miles) Do your own research of course, and come to your own conclusions! But we were very impressed and are considering “jumping ship” to Saga as our favoured line!! Cheers! Mr. H. Found these links. They’re pretty good! Rare Windsurfboy Posted October 7, 2021 #34 Share Posted October 7, 2021 Mr&Mrs H Thank you, I have a Saga cruise booked in May, Black Sea , which we're very much looking forward too (Cunard in March back from South Africa was cancelled ). Only started cruising in 2015. Up till now , Cunard has been our go to cruise line, as it seems it was for yourselves. So it's interesting to hear that you may jump ship to Saga as your favourite line. We will make up our own minds after May cruise. Like you I read Solent Richards blogs which I find informative, which tempts us to look at other lines . However we prefer , just one longer cruise a year which limits choice . Saga offers a variety of cruises which is a plus.
