Ohio Bucki Posted August 10, 2021 #1 Share Posted August 10, 2021 Is Carnival using any thermal temperature scanners on the ships or in the terminals?
csm5986142 Posted August 10, 2021 #2 Share Posted August 10, 2021 Back on 7/15 (in Galveston) they were not (that I recall seeing) but that might be different now.
ScottsSweetie Posted August 10, 2021 #3 Share Posted August 10, 2021 I've not seen any information posted that these are in use.
Rare BlerkOne Posted August 10, 2021 #4 Share Posted August 10, 2021 Not obtrusive ones, anyway.
Rare crewsweeper Posted August 10, 2021 #5 Share Posted August 10, 2021 Thermal temperature scanners were, for the most part, useless in detecting COVID. By the time your temperature is high enough to trigger a warning, you're already feeling sick anyway.

Rare BlerkOne Posted August 10, 2021 #9 Share Posted August 10, 2021 Fever is certainly a possible symptom of covid. If it stops a few cases, it is worth it.
atexsix Posted August 10, 2021 #10 Share Posted August 10, 2021 If they are not taking temps, how are they finding out about positive cases? Do they wait for somebody to become extremely ill? Or are they counting on people with mild symptoms to report to the medical center, knowing they'll be removed from the ship?

I think if you go to the infirmary with so much as a hangnail, they are testing you. If positive, then they do contact tracing and testing.

They could easily without you even knowing it. Just put scanners near food stations.

If I'm not having symptoms I'm not sure they can legally demand that I visit the infirmary or have a medical procedure performed on me against my will. I can't see that happening, if for no other reason than the really bad P.R.
Retiredmedic Posted August 10, 2021 #15 Share Posted August 10, 2021 They only use the red thermometer, but it tastes weird.

I suggest your read the ticket contract and section 5 in particular. https://www.carnival.com/about-carnival/legal-notice/ticket-contract

Refusing a test is going to be treated as a positive case.
