Its a flat fee. With the dining  plan its included in my cost already. I doubt I would ever pay to eat here. It was good though, just not something I would pay for on a cruise.

That's what i thought, but i didn't know it was open for late night dining or if it was the same concept at late night.  I mean, they serve breakfast complimentary on the oasis class in there.

I love me some chili cheese dog and I *think* i found one on my last Grandeur cruise.

I am just catching up on the thread.  As Jam has said, the internet has been very spotty and I finally gave up trying.

I saw that someone mentioned a cabin under Izumi.  I would be careful of cabins in that area.  The reason is that the Schooner Bar is right next to Izumi which means music late into the night and people stomping their feet, etc.  If you are a light sleeper, I believe you would be bothered

That was me that posted about possible OV under Izumi. Thank you for your input - we went ahead & booked a balcony on deck 6 instead and this just affirms my decision to pay the extra $107 for that cabin. Hope you're enjoying the cruise!

Is it possible to use wifi calling with your cellphone when out at sea?  My phone has a wifi calling feature.  I was planning on shutting everything down but I thought it might be nice to check in with the wife while I'm sipping on a cold one and staring out at the sea.

I use WiFi on my Smartphone when cruising. You will need to get the Zoom minimum package to do that. Don't forget to put your phone on Airplane mode before sailaway!!!

Dinner tonight was a bit mixed but service was a true 10/10.

I started with the calamari.

I'm not a big fan of calamari but sometimes I like it. This was not one of those times. Plus it was served with mayonnaise for dipping. 🤢

Next I ordered the short rib and pancetta.

The short rib was a little dry but the mashed potatoes served with it were devine. The pancetta was also very good.

For dessert I ordered the epic brownie.

Other than the stale popcorn this was indeed epic. Yum.

Service was over the top with both the host and manager stopping by to see how things were going and chat a bit. I get this level of service here and Izumi. Chops seems Indifferent and I think I am going to cancel my reservation for tomorrow for a return to Izumi.

I say late night but it was only like 10 lol. I wish it was open later that would  be a great nighttime treat.

Jumped over here to follow yet another cruise @jam19872016.

Have you tried a sleep mask to help with the darkness? It might help.

Thanks for following 🙂

The light is a minor annoyance my issue is really with sound. I bring a fan with me to drown out most sounds and have ear plugs if things get bad, but they bother my ears so that is for emergencies only. Thankfully it hasn't been that bad in a while.

Late night snack from Cafe Promenade.

I had a good time tonight even if i kept to myself. After a bottle of champagne and a couple drinks from the casino I'm not a functioning member of society at this point.

Going to bed see you guys in the morning for the last day of the cruise.

I'm only slightly too full from my trip to playmakers this morning.

Jalapeño poppers.

20210919_115918.thumb.jpg.8d50cd0b7ad154808eb295f25b31a994.jpg

Crispy chicken sandwich.

20210919_115913.thumb.jpg.fe118f90164cf6e63b1d23db55d77ebb.jpg

It's got a nice crunch to it but it is just a little dry. Needs some mayonnaise. Stop serving all the mayonnaise with calamari in Jamie's we need it down here!

For dessert a campfire cookie no marshmallows.

Much much better with no marshmallows on it.

Hi Jam. We're taking the 25th-29th cruise on Mariner. First RC cruise.  We're thinking Jamie's for lunch on embarkation day? Do you know if the lunch and dinner menu are the same?

For those of you cruising right now, are there any zinger deals offered on ship by the Next Cruise Program?  I just booked my Nov. 6th cruise and plan to book next year's cruise for the family (2 staterooms).  Also, any zingers on Spa treatments while on board?

I am crazy. I finally caught the cruise next desk open and asked about the promotion u thought I heard about. It does not exist. Sometimes they run specials with a lower rate but not $200 OBC just for booking.

The up to $600 is your usual $25-75 for most bookings. $600 is for a 10 day cruise in a grand suite. At that point $600 means nothing to me lol.

No spa deals either. They said they were running a special on coco cay day and it would be listed in the planner but it is not listed so they must have met their quota.

It is likely dependent on how booked the spa is on your sailing so just because there were no specials on my cruise, there might be when you sail.

They are similar. The lunch menu omits some of the more expensive meat items like lamb chops, short ribs, things like that. Appetizers and pasta etc all seem to be the same. If something else is omitted it is close enough that I don't notice a difference.

Well damn. I was drooling for those short ribs

Good Luck with your test.

I will be on the Mariner 3 weeks from tomorrow.  My wife and I were scheduled for the September 3rd sailing but she was still uncomfortable with the many cases in Florida.  But with threads like yours, her fears are easing up and I am hopeful we will make our next one.  So thank you for taking the time to do this.  We also love the UDP and get it every time.  I was interested in the Wind Jammer for lunch, just to see if it has gotten any better since the restart.  I was wondering if you had a chance to check out the offerings?

I too get so many offers from the casino and we have 6 free cruises booked for the next few months.  Are you a table player as well or just slots?  Have you noticed if the poker tables get crowded?  Are they forcing players to sit a seat apart?  If you get the chance, I would appreciate a picture or 2 of the tables during gaming hours.

TIA,

Knuckles

I've taken a few passes by the tables, and without paying attention it seems crowded because it is in such a small part of the casino floor. But looking closer, my initial analysis was wrong. There have been plenty of openings at most of the tables each time I've checked. When a table is full, there is another of the same game not full and sometimes empty.

I've eaten a lot of great dishes at Jamie's. Honestly the short ribs was not one of them. I've had better quality at the dining room. The best part was the sauce the mashed potatoes were covered in. Once I finished that I didn't finish the rest. Too dry and a little tough.

Oh, well dampens the old taste buds. Where else would you recommend if we choose not to do Jamies

Jam,

Where are you putting all this food you are ordering?

Haha no kidding. I am not sure I would do this again for 7 days. I am so full. Plus I did 9 days on a cruise before this. I think my body is going to go into shock when I get home and eat normal portions again.

I still highly recommend Jamie's. The food there is very good and the pasta is made fresh in house and it shows. Very good quality.

Beyond that I'm at a bit of a loss. I think playmakers and Johnny rockets are not worth the upcharge and I eat there because its included in my dining plan.

I can't get excited about the buffet either, on any line nothing against the Windjammer. The hot dogs look good but you will still need to supplement with something from the buffet.

That's honesty why I did the dining plan, the included options look very unappealing to me. Carnival gets knocked on for their food and yea its not always great, but the variety of options blows any cruise line out of the water especially at lunch.

TLDR; Jamie's all the way.

I have an related question I hope someone can answer.

We want to book a cruise for 2022 but can't decide to book really early, like now, or book on the ship, or book real close to sail date. Any opinions?

I book casino rates so I can't really help with that. I've heard of some great last minute deals lately to fill up ships, but who knows if that is the case still next year. Plus room selection will be more limited the closer in you get.

I think it comes down to how flexible you can be. If you don't need a set room, a set ship, or set date, last minute is the way to go. If you need to pick your room, want to sail something specific, and need to lock in the vacation date go ahead and book now.

Indeed! I have told them I will be back next weekend so they can be sure to restock the pantry! 🙂
