OBC question

Hi all 🙂   we have a little OBC from our promo that says it is intended for excursions....   We had some similar OBC on Celebrity a few weeks ago (said it was for excursions)   but we were in actuality able to use it for whatever we wanted...  wonder if that is true for the OBC under the "Save Now, Cruise later, Have it All Event" promotion

thanks in advance !

In the past, we had an OBC that was in theory for excursions, but on board was treated like any other shipboard credit.

Things may have changed, though. HAL online profiles now (showing up at some point before sailing) display a banner with your promo credits in dollar amounts as allotted for dining & excursions. You can easily prebook both, and in the check-out, are given an option to apply that promo credit to the order. For example, we had a dining credit good for one Pinnacle and one Canaletto dinner for our January cruise, and pre-booked both on our preferred date using the credit.

So possibly their accounting systems now actually will keep track of what the promo credits can be used for on board as well.

Really depends on whether you have actual OBC or if you have 'promo credit' towards Excursions.  If you have the promo credit then it can only be used towards excursions and it is non transferable and non refundable.  If you have OBC then it can be used for most things, except casino, cash etc and probably is also non refundable.

thank you for the replies!  Since our restaurant credit was definitely earmarked for specific restaurants only, I'm going to guess the OBC is intended only to go towards shore excursions...  more than likely it won't be used, but that's ok 🙂

thanks!

Hello!

I can only say that bygone OBC’s were applicable to your overall on board account regardless of promotional “sweeteners”, aka tours, dining venues, drinks, etc. unless really specific.
And, I might add, if specific (I can only think of casino credits) which there used to be ‘work arounds’ BTW (see past discussions).

Perhaps the accounting system has been upgraded to track specific credits/promotions per account. Good for them, if true.

I can only suggest giving a ring to CS in Seattle and see if your particular credits would apply to your overall on board account.

Be aware that sometimes differing answers occur when contacting CS.
Be sure to have the “correct” answer emailed to you and print it out to take aboard with you.

Doing such will make the ship board accounting experience much more easier. JMHO.

Best of luck.

Be well.
