Missymssy Posted November 1, 2021 #1 Share Posted November 1, 2021 I wasn't able to find anything recent about MSC Opera. Considering booking a 7 night round trip from Marseille next October. I have only been on 2 cruises in my life (obviously pre-Covid), so I'm a little nervous. MSC seems confusing with the different levels of booking in itself, and if this ship is nothing like others, well, not sure if it's worth it. lol

FYI, there is no Yacht Club on this ship if that matters to you. You can also easily search for ships by selecting them in the drop down... zekekelso Posted November 1, 2021 #3 Share Posted November 1, 2021 Violetta and Alfredo were excellent; the baritone and chorus not so much. The Brindisi was rousing, folks were crying at the end, what more could you ask? 1
sidari Posted November 1, 2021 #4 Share Posted November 1, 2021 Sailed on Opera to Scandinavia some years back, nice ship with a great indoor pool area and a really nice Theatre.

Take all reviews with a pinch of salt, some unhappy people just had wrong expectations. Nothing bad to say about the Opera! It is classical cruising in the Med, soon this will be gone completely and you missed it. But if you go with kids, then better take the newer MSC classes with the modern cruising. Are you sure we're talking the same ship? I cannot find anything about an indoor pool on MSC Opera. Just two outdoors pools and a waterpark. After the cut and shut Opera was given the waterpark as you mentioned. We had booked an Inside on Opera but got moved to an Outside behind the lifeboats which is the smallest cabin we have ever sailed in, you had to climb over the side ends of the bed to get to the side of the bed. These cabins had been used for some of the crew previously and need to be avoided.
Cruiseforever11 Posted November 2, 2021 #8 Share Posted November 2, 2021 The Opera was our very first cruise with MSC May 2014. We had an ocean view cabin with my husband & daughter it was just a 2 nighter out of Southampton I think if it had been a 7night cruise we would of booked a balcony but we thought she was amazing back then and we have sailed with MSC since. We sailed on her before she was made bigger in 2015. I have attached a picture of her when we went on in 2014 to Guernsey and another picture of her now when we saw her in venice May 2019. Sorry about the quality of the first picture the best I had. I would certainly go on her again if she was doing an itinerary we were interested in.

Missymssy Posted November 11, 2021 Author #10 Share Posted November 11, 2021 Are the excursions offered through msc expensive? Their website gives no indication. Just thinking in case of not being allowed off ship otherwise... some ports are in Italy.

They can range any where between £35 - £150pp I'm sailing on the Magnifica at the end of the month and booked some of their tours the cheapest one we booked was £45pp and most expensive we booked £55pp ish (can't remember of the top of my head but something along those lines) Just to add they were tours for fully vaccinated only but free to do our own thing once there if that makes sense. Missymssy Posted December 2, 2021 Author #13 Share Posted December 2, 2021 Is anyone familiar with where the smoking areas on Opera are? I searched sites that show deck plans and MSC's website, but that isn't something listed.
