UK to Cape Liberty - how to kill time???

I am travelling from the UK in February to pick up the Anthem of the Seas at Liberty cruise terminal.  We are flying into Newark the day before.

What hotel would you recommend the night before the cruise?

Our flight home doesn't leave until 18.45 from Newark, we will probably have to get off the ship by 9.00 - any ideas on what we can do until we go to the airport?  I would love to go shopping, but, with 2 suitcases not sure that is an option

Anyone else done this trip?  any tips gratefully received

thank you

The terminal is somewhat close to NYC, you can get on a ferry from Edgewater (via Uber) and get to midtown or downtown, then you can take a NJ Transit train from NY Penn Station to Newark Airport.  Not sure what you can do with your luggage though.  Another option is, they built the American Dream Mall not too far away, might be able to kill a few hours, also on the train line that you can get back to Newark Airport.

We did this several years ago, stayed at Country Inn and Suites in Elizabeth(near the airport). There is a choice of hotels there and the Jersey Gardens Mall right opposite. When we returned from the cruise the hotel stored our bags for the day (I think free of charge) and we spent the day shopping at the Mall before our overnight flight. Hotels have an airport shuttle and it was easy to get a cab to and from the cruise terminal.

The best recommended EWR hotels are located in Elizabeth NJ near Jersey Gardens Mall. Embassy Suites and Country Inn & Suites are in this category. These hotels, unlike others near the airport, have dining options that you can walk to including within the Jersey Gardens mall, even in February.

Other EWR area hotels are isolated, areas not conducive to walking, with limited dining options, some rely on food delivery.

Another option is Double Tree Newark Penn Station in downtown Newark. Free shuttle to/from EWR.  The Ironbound section of Newark, known for its restaurants is nearby but you will need taxi/uber both ways.

The option presented in #3 is likely your best choice. There is a car rental in Bayonne but closed on Sundays, when you ship returns. The American Dream mall in East Rutherford, NJ would be the most entertaining use of your time but it is going in a direction away from the airport & your luggage would have to accompany you. There is no luggage storage option at Cape Liberty.

Be advised train service to the mall, which is across from met life stadium, only runs when there is a big event at the stadium (concert, football game, etc.).
