Strenz Posted December 4, 2021 #26 Share Posted December 4, 2021 I am sure one person in a cabin can not take the beverage package, has to be two. It has always been that way and I have been sailing with WS since 1999 ( I started as a toddler!! : ) I am not sure when it started I think early 2000's it was always a cabin had to take 2. Pudgesmom Posted December 4, 2021 #27 Share Posted December 4, 2021 They may have changed it again. I clearly recall a time when it could be purchased by one in a cabin. A quick search turned up this article: https://thejetset.com/travel-news/cruises/windstar-expands-sommelier-team-makes-changes-to-drink-packages/amp/
Strenz Posted December 4, 2021 #28 Share Posted December 4, 2021 Yes, pardon me I guess I remember when the alcohol package was introduced, it was required to purchase for 2 in a cabin. I never paid attention to it again really because we never buy it, my husband max a drink a day, me the most ever 3 and that is not often. Cheap dates! Wishing you Happy Sailing.
Petoonya Posted December 5, 2021 #29 Share Posted December 5, 2021 Period-exclamation point, my TA spoke with WS and it truly can be one person. Thanks for the thoughtful replies Strenz and Pudgesmom. I'm the wino of the two of us and might work for me alone.

I have some good OBC on both of my 2022 cruises and am considering the package for just me. I am tired of having to “do the math” and just want to be able to enjoy an adult beverage whenever the occasion arises.

And furthermore......dh will initially be upset when I tell him I bought the package for him too, but he loves some good scotch and he'll ultimately be pleased that I did it. Two cocktails before dinner won't hurt him. And it's damn vacation time so I'm going for it and be a wild woman. Some lovely friends from CC on our cruise and I want to be able to enjoy a wonderful cruise with them. I'm so glad to hear of another gal going for the gusto!
Nearpost345 Posted December 18, 2021 #32 Share Posted December 18, 2021 Like Jenbelle, our gratuities have been prepaid and Windstar have already confirmed they will not credit us for those prepaid gratuities if we buy the All In package at $79 ($89 if you don’t purchase five days in advance). However it seems the Captains beverage package is available for $59 + 15% gratuity per day. The Captains package can be purchased up to two days after sailing. Is the Ultimate beverage package just another way of saying the Captains beverage package? Many thanks for your comments and corrections if needed. mcbeck Posted January 4, 2022 #33 Share Posted January 4, 2022 It's been a while since I've cruised with Windstar .... or any other lines. But here's my experience when we did purchase it on a 10 day Baltic cruise with Windstar. Initially, I figured I might have a mimosa or Bloody Mary in the morning, maybe a beer or two at lunch, and then a few drinks at dinner. But we ended up taking excursions each day as we stopped in Sweden, Denmark, Germany, Norway, and Scotland, where we were off the boat early each day and usually out until late afternoon, in time for sailing off and hearing the 1492: Conquest of Paradise Theme. So in order for me to "Get my money's worth" would have me drink 5 to 6 cocktails every evening. I managed to do that one day, but that's pushing my usual limits for drinking in the evening. I think if I had to do it again, unless it was a cruise where I was spending longer times on board ... more days at sea, I probably wouldn't do the drink package again. I didn't when we did the Barcelona to Rome cruise with Windstar a few years ago and I think we came out ahead.
IpswichChris Posted January 16, 2022 #34 Share Posted January 16, 2022 Maybe this has been answered before, but...if we buy the $49/day Beer and Wine package, is the 15% gratuity based on the amount of the packages (49/day x 2 people x 8 days = $784), or based on the number of drinks we actually order during the week? Nearpost345 Posted January 16, 2022 #35 Share Posted January 16, 2022 Price of package, $49 n this case, plus 15% a day ($7.35). So drink as much or as little as you like, the gratuity is always $7.35 per person per day.
