pbenjamin Posted November 29, 2021 #1 Share Posted November 29, 2021 Today was 55 days out for our cruise and we received the upgrade offer. As we will be in an H6, the only upgrades were to H3 and H2.They are accepting bids for both. Thing is that the H2 has been sold out for months. Are they seeking bids for insurance in case of cancellation?
raitch Posted November 29, 2021 #2 Share Posted November 29, 2021 Yes. It’s very smart of them. Like up bids for each room even if it’s sold, and if there’s a cancellation all the other lined up bids can fall into place like dominos.
AndyCapn Posted November 29, 2021 #3 Share Posted November 29, 2021 Don't forget that those passengers in H2/H3 may also be offered upgrade bidding for an Owner's Suite or Garden Villa. If their bid gets accepted, NCL has bids lined up to replace them.

AndyCapn Posted November 29, 2021 #5 Share Posted November 29, 2021 I apologize for not taking the time to scroll through your entire posting history to see which ship you were on. It is entirely my fault for not researching this pertinent information that you did not deem necessary to include in your question; and you are right to rebuke me for failing to account for this in my reply. I can only hope you find the strength to get past this gross transgression that has been inflicted upon yourself.

Have you been in Escape H2? Seems I recall that as we were looking for info on that room when we had it booked.
pbenjamin Posted November 29, 2021 Author #7 Share Posted November 29, 2021 There was no rebuke, simply pointing out why your well-intentioned advice didn’t apply in my situation. Peace

Basically a much larger H6 with an extra bathroom. Have the side balcony and huge front. Nice inside room that our DD used. Bed not as big in there as the newer H2s. Living room pullout like king size. We were on a trip to Bermuda and had some friends in a balcony that could visit in room. Hopefully someone cancels and you get one. Trimone Posted November 29, 2021 #10 Share Posted November 29, 2021 Don’t forget the passengers who booked it may be from a country with covid restrictions
Sue Do-Over Posted November 29, 2021 #11 Share Posted November 29, 2021 I see it as insurance for NCL, that they always have passengers in the $$$ suites, paying extra gratuities for their butler/concierge. This bidding system pressures you to make a 'good' offer, which can bring the cost up nearly what you would have paid to book that cabin in the first place. Market research says that people who get upgraded - even if they pay for it - feel like they got a better deal, are more satisfied overall, and spend more aboard. Hotels, airlines, resorts, casinos, etc. all apply these strategies.
fabby50 Posted November 29, 2021 #12 Share Posted November 29, 2021 I sure don't like the bidding process - I much preferred it when they'd call you, ask you if you wanted to upgrade for X amount of dollars and you either took it or not. We got an upgrade from a standard balcony to an owner's suite that way. I will never bid.

We got an upgrade from a standard balcony to an owner's suite that way. I will never bid. The old UpSell department use to work fine for a small fleet of ships. But as NCL started to add one megaship a year to the fleet, the UpSell department didn't scale and could not handle all of the requests. So, they went to the automated bidding system. I use to call every few days checking for last minute cancellations. We also use to get email UpSell notifications Edited November 30, 2021 by BirdTravels

It just lets people make bids whether for an H2 or an oceanview room. 1) Everyone moves up when bids are accepted 2) People cancel all the time. We have cancelled on week-of-cruise multiple times,,, so be looking for a 2BR H6 coming available on our upcoming Breakaway cruise.
